Wedding Woes

Just a Rant

So,

My fiance is immigrating here from the UK and we sent in our application two months ago tomorrow. The average waiting time for the first half of this process is five months. Then he has to wait till the Embassy receives the information and contacts him and do all that which'll take about another month since he has to do his doctor's exam and his interview before they mail him his visa and he can FINALLY come out here.

So I took what I knew was a longshot and called my Representative and asked if there was anything they could do. They said not officially but were willing to send a letter as sometimes that encourages the office to simply process the application when they have to look up the status. Got the reply back from them today and no such luck. We're in the line, about 6000 applications now from being processed... so we'll be processed right on time in about three months.

It is miserable. And I keep having to bite my tongue from making a nasty comment to him about how his mother can be happy now. She'll have him there to nag and complain at for the whole processing time.

We knew it was a long shot, but we were really hopeful that we would get lucky.

Military wives and Fiance's... I don't know how you do it, but thank you for doing it. I know it makes my fiance a little happier knowing that in the end we'll be together. I cant imagine how much happier your men are knowing you're waiting for them at home.

Do you have an immigration lawyer working on your behalf?   It can be costly, but can speed up the process if it's a good one.
If you can't afford a good lawyer, have you looked into any community resources that have immigration lawyers for reduced fees?   My husband works for a non-profit that helps immigrants and refugees with this sort of thing, so I know they exist.

Immigrating to the UK is an even bigger, more costly and twice as stressful process. And an immigration lawyer, sadly, can't speed up the processing time which is the issue. It's just a matter of waiting and being patient... And *shrugs* there are days when you really miss being with your other half. September is still a very very long way off.
