Wedding Woes

Why is this so hard?

We registered at Macys. One of their perks is that if you have a Macys card, you get 10% back on everything you purchase while you're registered, plus 5% of whatever is purchased off your registry. It's supposed to come in the form of a gift card 90 days after your wedding.

I do a lot of shopping at Macys. Hookers owe me close to $1,000, but my gift card is nowhere to be seen. Supposedly they have re-sent it to me twice. I'm not sure why my bills get to me perfectly fine but my gift card keeps getting lost.

I'm really annoyed now because their Friends and Family sale starts in a week. This is one of only 2 times a year that my silver pattern will be on sale, and I wanted to use the gift card to complete what we didn't get as gifts. I just got off the phone with them (after holding for 30 minutes). They're going to issue yet another card, but it takes 72 hours to process and 2-3 weeks to be delivered. So I either shell out cash for the silver and then have a thousand dollars to burn, or I have to wait until November to complete my set.

I know I shouldn't be complaining about free money, but if they're not going to follow through on the offer in a timely manner, why make the offer at all?

Re: Why is this so hard?

  • can't they expedite to you - obviously this has been their error - ask them to overnight the card to you.

I'm not sure on their policy - but can you use a g/c to pay off your credit card? Then you could charge the platter and use the g/c to pay it off once it arrives.

I haven't used my macy's card in ages.

  • They're supposed to call me back, so I will ask about email. I also want to know if they can just issue me the card in store at this point.

And really, more than half of the money back came from my own spending, not the registry. That's sad when you realize how much that means I spent at Macys in the year I was engaged.
  • No, Macy's will not let you use a gift card to pay off a credit card, it has to be used for purchases.

A couple we know got over $2,000 on their gift card after their wedding. Gift cards don't expire so they've used it the last 2 Christmases to buy gifts for their families.
