My GI doctor just called to let me know that my insurance didn't approve the wireless acid test, so they have to attempt the tube up the nose again. Honestly, it's the news I was expecting, but not the news I was hoping for. I'm considering paying out of pocket, but the price for the first procedure was already 2500 and only partially covered. That's a high price to pay for being a scaredy cat.

I think I'm going to go in for a follow-up appointment and ask if they can just start treating me without the test. The biopsies from my endoscopy showed acid reflux damage, so why can't they just diagnose it off of that?

Option 2 would be asking to be put under full anesthesia while it's inserted and also while it's removed, and having a supply of valium for the 24 hours it's in place.

I fvcking hate that my insurance company gets to decide what's medically necessary.
