My grandma is improving. She's off the ventilator. I guess on Tuesday, she was still a little foggy and possibly talking to people that weren't there, but she was pretty lucid yesterday and definitely didn't have any phantom conversations.
They want to put a pacemaker in, but she's been having a lot of infection issues and they can't do surgery until the infection issues are cleared up. Also, she will have to be put under for the procedure and who knows if she can survive that.
Andplusalso, even if the risk factors are minimal, what's the pacemaker going to for her quality of life? She's 86(ish) and has been out of the hospital dozens of times in the past 3-4 years. Her health was declining before that. I can pretty much trace the start of her issues back to her hip replacement when I was in Jr. High.
Dad and his siblings are going to have a sit-down with her this weekend and figure out what's going to happen going forward. So we'll see. I just hope everyone can come to the conclusion to do what's best for grandma with the time she has left.
