Wedding Woes

from where i cheat

dude buys a starbucks frappuccino every day, sometimes several in one day.  longtime girlfriend has asked him to stop, citing expense and health.  the question is: does this request cross some kind of line?

overwhelmingly, everyone is saying he should dump her because if she makes requests like this, she is going to start making requests about EVERYTHING.  i don't think it will break that way, but the whole thing has a very "btches be smurfy, you know what i mean?" vibe.

Um no.  If it is HIS money fine, let him make bad decisions...if they SHARE money....but really it is a bad habit.

It's not the smartest or the healthiest thing to be doing.

If she's a constant harpy, then I can see where this is going. If it's just this issue, then I think she has a point.

I would instantly lose respect for a guy if I found out he drank multiple frappucinos a day. I'm not even sure why, but there it is.

Maybe the health and financial excuses are just cover for the fact that she's embarassed to be seen with him.

If they have not combined finances, nor are considering doing so, I think it is over the line, if you are going to cite the financial ramifications.

His health, I think that is reasonable if you are in a loving, committed relationship. It probably would have been better for her, strategically speaking, if she had asked him to cut back, rather than go cold turkey.

I don't get why it bothers her. Is it that they're on a very strict, shared budget? I won't even touch the health thing. My H smokes. Obviously it's not healthy, and I think it's affecting him more than he realizes, but he's a grownup who smoked when I met him. I don't get to be a condescending bitch and nag at him for it.

I'd dump her just because this doesn't make any sense to me at all. If this is the biggest problem she has with the guy, she should count her blessings and STFU.

I just can't imagine throwing away (to me anyway) anwhere from $6-$9 a day on a frozen coffee drink that really is a waste in every way.  Maybe he's banging a Starbucks chick in trade?

At this point, smoking is probably more expensive than Starbucks. A pack in Illinois is like $15.

Well, you can't expect people to stay exactly the same as they were when you met, right? People grow, hopefully together, in a relationship. Maybe she can help him be healthier and she can help her not be such a snatchface.

depending on size, flavour and extras, it's anywhere from $150-$200 a month, so $1,800 - $2,400 a year.

i hate starbucks frappuccinos.  they are milkshakes, and yet everyone thinks it's just coffee or no big deal.  i blanch every time i see a kid sucking one down.

Is she spending any $ in an equally frivolous way?  Manicures?  Purses? Make-up?
