Wedding Woes

Officiant Fee

I'm getting married in September in my hometown, in the church I grew up in. He charges $336, which includes his fee, the fee for the church, and custodial fees, even though I'm not decorating or having the reception at the church. I understand that he and the church has to charge something, but I've been a member of the church since I was a little girl, and my mother still goes faithfully, and about 3/4 of the church's membership is related to me. I just feel the fee is a bit exhorbitant. We don't mind paying something, but I thought members get a discounted rate.

I've asked my fiance's mom about their church (same religion); she said it would be free for us to get married there. But I've always wanted to get married at my church. Not trying to be cheap or anything, but I just wasn't expecting such a high fee to get married at my church.

What do you all think? Is $336 about average, too much, or I should just pay up? Or should we just marry at my fiance's church if it's free? Thanks!
