Wedding Woes

Wedding Shower

Hi ladies!  I am here for a little advise.  My sister is getting married soon and I have agreed to help host the wedding shower.  I was so happy to help and I love to throw a good party but money is tight this go around and I found out a week ago that 65 people are coming!  I know...who has 65 people at their bridal shower?!  I never expected this.  I am in charge of getting all the food.  The main hosetess told me that she was wanting to do finger foods.  What do you all think the best "cheap" foods would be to serve?  I have ideas but I just keep second guessing myself.  This is not a super fancy thing at all.  Any ideas?

I just don't want to let my sister down.  I have thought about saying something to her about the 65 people but I just don't want to rock the boat right now.

Thanks in advance!

    It's "adviCe," not "adviSe."

    chips & salsa?
    beanie weenies?
    fruit tray?
    veggie tray?

Definitely make sure this thing isn't scheduled around lunch or dinnertime.
    2pm would be perfect.

Have a potluck. I'm sure with that many people, you'll have plenty who are interested in helping. Be sure to check for hair before you dish up, though.

There are plenty of simple and delicious dips you can make, and serve with chips, bagel bits, slices of bread, etc. Cheese, fruit and veggie trays are always enjoyed. Then do a variety of cookies, chocolates and petit fours for dessert.

why can't the other hosts help with the food?

spinach/artichoke dip and bread/chips for dipping
    pigs in a blanket
    bruschetta
shrimp cocktail (i wouldn't eat it, but a lot of people would)
chicken nuggets with dipping sauces (Chick Fil A caters)
    pizza rolls/pizza bagels
fruit on a skewer with sauce for dipping

do you have a way to keep food at the appropriate temps? (hot food hot, cold food cold?)

... is this going to be at someone's home/a banquet hall/restaurant? Depending on the location, will the facility allow you to cater it yourself? (because many won't)

I'm in agreement with DG - don't have this party at a mealtime if you're only planning to have snacks

If you're looking at having the party during a mealtime, I'm going to suggest having a pasta bar with different sauces, salad with dressing choices, and rolls - this could be done fairly inexpensively for 65 ($200 or less) and would fill people up.
