cake?

Has anyone else considered getting a small one or two tier cake for cutting and then getting sheet cakes for the guests from costco? 15.99 for a sheet cake at costco is pretty hard to beat. I'm just not sure what cake table would look like with a tiny cake on it? Anyone priced out a small cutting cake? TIA!

I've seen a smaller 2-tiered cake at a wedding we attended last summer.  I thought it looked nice.  Of course, if you've always envisioned cutting into a larger cake, you'll have to ask yourself if you can deal with that.  For the sheet cake in the back, I've heard a good way to dress them up is to ask the caterer to drizzle some raspberry/strawberry/chocolate sauce on the bottom of the plate before putting the slice on it to dress it up a little.  Just an idea.

Our venue is making our cake... so we don't have to pay per head, ridiculous... but, we're doing a small two tier cake for cutting as well. Our venue said it will cost around 50. I'm betting more.
Costco is great though, and I would totally go through them if I didn't want to pay extra to bring it in!!
The last two weddings I have been to had small cakes for cutting then sheet cakes. The first wedding had their venue/caterer cut the sheets out of the room and just serve slices. And the second wedding had the caterer cut in front of guests. I think this style, small cake/sheets, is becoming the norm up here, my opinion.

Just a heads up with Costco-I got my engangement party cake there and they totally messed it up! The type of cake was wrong, the filling was wrong and they spelled my FI name wrong.  Just something to keep in mind with your wedding cake if you get it there, it might not be what you paid for or ordered.

i think if you want to do that, do it. or you can just get a smaller version. A wedding I went to recently had a three tiered cake that cost them about 150 and it looked like a regular wedding cake it was just a smaller scale. Then bringing in additional cake is a great plan.

Kelli Morse has great prices. You should look into her! Plus her cake is TO DIE FOR!

I agree with Sarack. I considered doing sheet cakes too, but Kellie's prices were so reasonable, a three tier cake didn't bust my budget.

I have had the same question!!! I don't really see the need for a bigger cake when really, is anyone going care or notice? And sometimes Costco cake takes better than other cakes I've tried.

Personally, I'm a huge fan of Safeway's buttercream frosting, so I really want that! (No fondant here, please.) But would it be cheaper to just get a small cutting cake from Safeway (cause I'm definitely eating it), and then get a sheet cake for everyone else.

I think doing sheet cakes is fine, but be sure that they match your tiered cake if you don't want guests to know that you have the sheet cakes in the back.
