How are you doing menus?

How are you displaying menus at the reception? One per person, one per table, no menus at all? Something else entirely? We are having a buffet... should we still have menus?

Re: How are you doing menus?

  • We're having a BBQ buffet at a tent wedding, so no menus.  If they won't be able to smell the menu then there's something wrong =)

  • If we were having the guests be able to choose their meal at the venue then we would have menus...but since they're preselected & they're getting a detailed description on the website we aren't going menus...If we were having a buffet, we wouldn't have menus...It is an extra expense.
  • The guests have to preselect their meals so no point in putting them out since they already know what they are going to have.  If I was having a buffett I would probably do one or two per table at least just so they know what to look for when they get in line and there's less likely of a traffic jam.

Yeah, this is what I am thinking. If people can read a description of what's available, they will in theory move faster through the buffet lines.

  • We're having a buffet and no menu. Bmore, I wouldn't worry about providing them. I've never been to a buffet reception that had a menu separate from the little description at the buffet itself.

  • We wanted a buffet too - not sure if we'll go through with that - but we'd just put cards with some explanation with every dish on the buffet table. No menus.

  • Our guests will preselect their meals, it'll be on their RSVP cards. The full menu is on our wedding website though.

  • I'll be providing menu cards at each plate.  My guests will be choosing their dinners at the reception.

I don't think menu cards are necessary for a buffet.  Will someone be labeling the buffet dishes?  That is always more helpful IMO.

  • Honestly, I think menus are silly to put at each place setting when there is a buffet. I plan to just label each dish, and maybe have a full listing at the very beginning of the buffet, but even that is not necessary.

Putting a "menu" on each table would be ok as well, especially for those sitting and waiting to get in line. But it's definitely not something that is needed.

  • i haven't decided about this yet...our guests will be pre-selecting their meals so they will already know what their entree is, but it might be nice to have a more detailed menu with the salad choice, breads, side items, etc. so guests know what to expect. i think this is one of those things we are going to wait on. if we end up being under budget (god willing , i hope we end up under budget!) or have free time for some DIY, we might throw together some menus a few weeks before.
  • We are not doing menus since we are only doing 1 plate (chicken). Our venue charges us extra if we want more than 1 plate.

Ditto this.  Our reception venue provides the menu so I am just going to use what they have.

  • I am having a Western style buffet.  I do want to present the options somehow.

I really like this cute DIY chalkboard menu.  I could make this easily.

Then if I feel my tables need more oomph I may do one menu per table and put them in these little wooden card holders:

  • Our guests are pre-selecting their meals but we are going to do a chalkboard menu also. Plly may have forgotton what it was and that way they will know what salads, sides etc will be coming

  • We will not have menus at tables because our guests will be preselecting their meals on the RSVP cards.

So far.. no menus. But if we were to have a menu, I would just do one of those large menu signs. Saves money, paper, time and headaches :)
