July 2012 Weddings

How much of your July wedding planning is done?

So, I'm pretty slow on the wedding planning stuff...by the end of this month, I plan to have my dress ordered and my BM dresses definitely picked out so that the girls can order them on their own (takes 2 months to come in). I still need a florist, hoping to nail that one down. Granted, I was slow to get started-engaged in Dec, started really planning mid-January.

So far I have: Church, reception, DJ and photographer done. Tuxedos are pretty much picked out but waiting for BM dresses to reserve. Food/cake/centerpieces come with venue and will be chosen in June. Pre-Cana is in April.

I still need to figure out wedding rings, limos, favors, girfts, invitations and other reception ideas.

Are most of you much further along in your planning? Am I really far behind??? I work 7 days a week and struggling with getting the time to do more than I am. FI is great and very helpful, but the current tasks (dresses, colors, flowers) I know I need to do, and I need to get done ASAP. I like lists, so each month I've come up with what I think should be done that month and don't move on til it's done. Hope I'm not making things more difficult

  • It sounds like you're actually in pretty good shape. If I were you, I would have the florist, WP attire, rings, and invitations at the top of my list right now. Smaller things like favors, gifts, paper items at the reception, etc. don't take as much time to order and don't have to be done until the day of the wedding. And as far as your florist goes, you don't have to have the exact flowers nailed down yet. Find a few florists that you like and take what ideas you have to them right now. It's more important to book the florist now, rather than have all the details of your bouquet finalized before you book.

  • I took a break from planning because I had been laid off and was all bummed out but I'm getting back into the game!

So far I have my cermony/reception venue (food is included along with chairs and tables) , photographer, the dress and accessories and tuxes

I need a cake, dj, limo, flowers and rings...I already know which rings I want its just having the money to buy them! I'm focusing on a DJ right now which is frustrating and stressful its probably my toughest decsion

    Don't feel bad I think I'm farther behind ;)

  • I have pretty much everything planned, now I am just figuring out all the small details. You still have 5 months left you seem like you are in pretty good shape thus far.

  • Things I have completed: Venue, Church, Photographer, DJ & Photobooth, Dress, BM Dress picked out, Tuxedos, Cake (Still have to nail down exact flavors)...

Things I am working on in the next couple weeks: Flowers and Invitations!!

I feel like things are coming together, I am just very anxious for it to be July!!
  • Yeah, I agree with PPs, seems like you have had a productive month and are in a decent spot. I have the things you have done, plus my dress, BM dresses, rings, favors, florist, RD, and almost done with invitations. I still need transportation, honeymoon details (just have flights now), and FI/GM's attire, plus lots of little details. I'm also still debating a videographer. I want one so badly, but FI doesn't think it's worth the $$.

  • Thanks for the responses! I actually DO have a florsit (relative) but haven't picked flowers/colors, and would like to get that done sooner than later. I'm not going with a real "theme" for the wedding by any means, more like "summer afternoon affair" but I was thinking of getting gifts/favors to go along with that in a way. But then I discovered cake pops and now thinking IF I can figure out how to make them, I may! My cousin who's a BM already has done these and also volunteered to help, as has my MOH and mom. We'll see...I don't want to make things more complicated than they need to be! But here's a picture of what cake pops I'd use, just substitue red ribbon for our colors, whatever they end up being!:

  • I don't like wedding themes a lot either, I think 'summer afternoon affair' sounds wonderful.

So far, I've got a venue (ceremony and reception in one), photographer, dj, caterer, rings ordered and someone is working on our invitations, dress and honeymoon.

We're skipping BM dresses, floral arrangements, favors and transportation. I still need to decide if we want a cake on top of our dessert buffet & cupcakes. I'm thinking maybe not.

I'm a bit at a loss for what to do right now. The main thing left is decoration, and I need to meet up at the venue again to ask a couple of question and check out a few things before I continue with that. And then it's just a lot of little details to fill out.

  • Have my coordinator, dress, bm's dresses chosen, venue chosen, dj, musician, caterer & menu, officiant, photographer, videographer, bridal jewelry, favors chosen, florist, rentals, cake design and baker chosen, transportation rings already in, and currently waiting to receive my invites.

I agree with all the girls and definitely think you should now be working on your invites, bp attire, rehearsal dinner if you planning one, and rings going.

You've done a lot since getting engaged! Good job girl! :)

As PP said, I think you are in good shape!

We have: the venue, band, florist, my dress, my shoes & earrings, BM dresses are ordered, veil is ordered, photographer, videographer, make-up artist, hotel block, hotel room for the wedding night, favor boxes, invitations, program covers, officiant, and we booked our honeymoon

We still need to order wedding rings, pick out our cake, book limos/transportation, pick out FI's tux and GM's tuxedos, buy WP gifts and I need to book a hairstylist and set up a trial (called but haven't heard back from her... giving her a few more days and then I'm calling someone else).

When the wedding gets closer, we need to finalize the menu, buy chocolates for the favors, and write the program itself.

It's good to write it out! I feel more organized lol

  • Congrats on getting that much done in a month and working so many hours! I have everything done except transportation of our guests (FI is handling) and FI's wedding band.  We have decided on favors, probably just doing small jars/boxes of M&M's unless I find someone who sells macarons around here.  We have all the big stuff booked, and I made sure we did since I'm working 70 hours+ a week and going to school part-time.

  • Have: my dress, BM dresses, invites, centerpieces, favors picked out but need to buy, same w/ BM gifts, got DJ, Photog, pastor, church, reception. getting flower girl dress today

need: florist, limo, rings, tuxes, GM gifts, honeymoon, bra!(having a hard time finding this), pick out menu - we go on sunday for tasting, finish guest list get addy's etc. shoes, pick out cake (comes with venue, just need to pick out design)

Just started planning mid - January though, so I think I am doing good!

  • Just wanted to add some more checks to my list...ordered my dress, BM dresses are set (wisteria and tea-length), tuxes reserved and wedding rings ordered! Got a lead on honeymoon and invitations so those will hopefully be the next checks!

Still undecided about limos...$700 for 1.5 hours seems silly but we do want limos...

The florist I had hoped to use backed out so gotta pick that...how soon should that be reserved?
