Wedding Woes

Thanksgiving menu?

I offered to make dinner this year, mostly because my mom's cooking is well... I'm much better.  I wanted to make things a little different from the usual.  I guess mom's bringing a fresh cranberry sauce & rolls and Grandma's bringing pumpkin pie.  I think I have control issues.

Herb-roasted turkey
Chestnut & Sausage stuffing
Dinner rolls (ooh,  maybe she'll go all out and buy Pillsbury brand crescent rolls.  I was going to make yeast rolls..)
Cranberry sauce (not a can)
Garlic mashed potatoes
Sweet potato & cranberry saute
Rosemary roasted vegetables
Pumpkin cheesecake (haven't decided between regular pumpkin cheesecake with the gingersnap crust or the more involved turtle pumpkin cheesecake)

This is what I'm leaning towards:'

    • First Course = Clementine Jimica Salad
    • SEcond Course = Pumpkin and Shrimp Bisque
    • Dinner = Roasted Turkey with Clementines, Sweet Potato Casserole, Pioneer Woman's Stuffing, cranberry sauce, homemade french bread (my recipe makes 2 loaves, 1 for dinner, 1 for the stuffing) and one more veggie TBD
    • Dessert = Old Fashioned Pecan Pie and one more thing for me I think (I don't like pie).

H does the Thanksgiving cooking, so I'm not certain on everything.

    Roasted turkey breast with citrus
Smoked gouda and garlic smashed potatoes
    Sauted green beans
Stuffing (all I know is we're not doing oyster stuffing this year)
    My grandma's dinner roll receipe
Roasted corn chowder (which will include a some lobster if the sale is still going)
Pumpkin cheesecake (with the pumpkin we boiled down from Halloween and gingersnap crust)

Mmmmmm.  Ours is totally old school
Apps- shrimp, veg, cheese, relish, whatever else anyone brings

Meal- turkey, noodles, mashed potatoes, sausage stuffing, green beans, seven layer salad, jello salad, fresh cranberries, canned cranberries, bourbon sweet potatoes, rolls, whatever else anyone else wants

Dessert- pumpkin, mince meat, berry, and cherry pie, peanut butter cookies with hershey kisses, birthday cake, cheesecake, some caramel thing, whatever else someone brings

Drinks- Wine, beer, coffee, tea, Bailey's, Jameson's, whatever else you want.

We rent a lodge in the woods for the weekend.  There will be ~50 at various times.  There's also a menu for Wednesday night's weenie roast and Friday brunch.

You're making me want to have Thanksgiving at my house. We're going to the IL's for T-day brunch and then to my cousins' for dinner. I'll be making cake pops for brunch and I don't know what H will be making to bring to dinner.

So far, it looks like we have (at the ILs')...
    • Roasted turkey
    • Smoked turkey
    • Giblet & non-giblet gravy
    • From-the-box mashed potatoes
    • "Artery Glue" potatoes (scalloped potatoes with tons of cheese, sour cream & bacon)
    • Smoked fish dip with crackers
    • The sweet potatoes with an option of little marshmallows, brown sugar & nuts, or plain
    • A shit-ton of pies

We're bringing Dharma's mac & cheese with the addition of a Panko crumb & bacon top layer.

My parents are going to bring something...PortoRican-y, by request.
