Wedding Woes

Morning, folks

I'm home, watching a good L&O marathon, trying to avoid MIL. Yep, she's here today. Right now she's cleaning our kitchen with bleach. Whatever, as long as she's ocupied and not bothering the hell out of me. DH is at work, but he swore he'd be home early. Also, my brother is coming over later and another friend of mine will be along later. I just have to keep her occupied until someone else comes along to distract her.

So, updates: I have a final PET scan tomorrow. Chemo probably will start week after next. I'm getting some really strong stuff, so there's definitely some baldness in my future. There's a good chance I'll have to take a leave of absence from school unless there's some way I can do it online. The chemo might effect my immune system, so the doctors want me to stay away from large crowds if I can help it. My hope is that I can talk some of my professors into recording classes for me; by the time finals come around, I should be at the end of my chemo.

Ah well, though, I'm not worrying about that now. I have plenty of time to think about that later.

..

think of the baldness as an opportunity to try out some new, exciting eyebrow designs.

Having a weak immune system gives you an excuse to stay away from people you don't like.

Going bald for a little while gives you an excuse to buy scarves and sexy wigs.  Thank goodness for online shopping!

Taking a sememster off isn't that bad, especially since it is over the holiday season.  No pressure around Thanksgiving and Christmas.

There's a lot of "yays" here.

I would hope that your school would have some kind of protocol in place for when students have to be out for a period of time for medical leave, and will be able to work with you.

I wonder how many times you can get away with pretending you are napping when MIL comes into the room.

You can SO do this, Ww. Hopefully you can avoid MIL all together during the chemo. Who knows what kind of stuff she picks up while shopping for fertility plates and whatnot.

i call dibs on any hair.

i cannot believe that you want to do classes online and be back in time for finals -- you are amazing!  i'm down to one class and i was eyeing the metro last night, thinking i wasn't going to go because i just didn't want to risk an unair-conditioned train.

I'm going to start hunting the good vendors for awesome scarves for you. If anyone can rock that look it's you.

Also, please be getting and frequently wearing this wig:

Meh...school will always be there. I hope you'll be able to go as much as you want to, though.

And as for crowds, I try my best to avoid them anyways.

I'm glad that there is much good news and that your attitude is rocking.

I'm feeling fine, still. I have my ups and downs, though; Sunday I had a bit of a crying jag. DH just held me all during it. It stopped, and I felt better. I figure I've got maybe 1 of those a week to keep me sane. I'm still certain I can beat this, but I'll admit I wish I didn't have to.

Otherwise, I feel ok. I've stopped losing weight, which is excellent. I get mushy food shoved down my throat every 2 hours or so. I've got lots of company. I've got a tribe of doctors hovering over me, and an RN that is salty as hell and wears a pin that says "Cancer Sucks" on her scrubs. I enjoy her.

I'm off for a hearing test; apparently one of the chemo drugs may mess with my hearing during treatment, so they have to make sure I'm not already deaf.

I'd say you put MIL on your baseboards and tell her not to get up til they're sparklin'.

Ditto everyone else.  I hope your MIL understands that she is a one-woman crowd that will need to be avoided.

You can DIY this wig out of a giant bag of Twizzlers.

Take it one day at a time.  Certainly talk to the school, but it's okay to take some time to heal your body and mind.  You'll need every ounce of energy to fight this thing.

Ww, thank you for posting your updates.  I've been off more than on lately, but I am thinking of you and am always glad to hear how you're doing.

I agree. Put MIL to work. You don't have to deal with her, and get a spotless house out of it.

Stay strong, and keep the fight in you. I admire you so much.

God knows you are strong enough to do both, but I think taking some time off to concentrate on healing and taking care of yourself is a good idea.  School will be there when you're ready.

Yea, definitely don't feel you have to smile if you don't want to. I would cry too, but it's good for you, like you said, to keep you sane. Then you can go on to playing practical jokes on delivery men.

Well, if MIL is cleaning your house...She's not out buying Mayan healing platters.

Good luck with Chemo.  It's a nasty bitch, but you're stronger than it is.  Just take it way easy and get lots of rest.  Are you having a port installed?
