Wedding Woes

Freaking vendors.

WHY is it that when vendors wander in the lab to hand us flyers detailing their deals, they can't just put the flyer down and go - no, they have to read the damn flyer to us, and point to the part they're reading at any given point in time.  Are they under the impression that one gets a job as a scientist by being illiterate?!

Re: Freaking vendors.

  • sales reps are awful - unless they're taking you out for lunch.

we have regular meetings with our national account reps, and they come with a slide deck that they read to us. just be happy it's a 5-10 minute sales call rather than a 2 -3 hour meeting.
  • We have two good reps around here.  One used to work in one of the labs, and she hands us the flyer, gloats briefly about how much more money she makes now, and then we swap rabbit pics and stories.  The other sets down the flyer and then we talk about art (she gave me a book on Dutch art rather than lab supplies as my free gift once).

  • Sales reps are the worst. Medical device reps are the worst of the worst. They wear scrubs everywhere because sometimes they get called into ORs to hand off their ridiculous product to a surgeon. Some on the off chance that happens, they always wear them and they look stupid. I sat next to one on my flight home from Chicago. He was a real winner.
  • We have construction workers here, as the are renovating the building.

One just fell off his ladder and nearly crashed through the glass into the CEO's office.

The entire office sounds like they have TB from all of the dust and general reaction to the paint fumes. I'd rather be working in the parking lot right now.
