Bring on Tday!!!!!

The cookies are made.  The soup is prepped.  The bags are packed.  I thought DH was working until 2, but he's leaving at 1230!  I can't wait to get my food coma on.

Tonight- Cousin Sandy's sausage and beans, Larry's venison stew, and s'mores all around!
Tomorrow- I kind of just want to load my plate with shrimp cocktail and my mom's sausage stuffing.  Then make room for Aunt Margaret's pumpkin caramel cake and my sister's mincemeat pie.

Re: Bring on Tday!!!!!

  • LOL!

Tomorrow we're having dinner with my IL's.  MIL's mashed potatoes and green bean casserole are to.die.for.   We're going to my parents for dessert.  I can't wait to see what my mom and sisters made because they're all really good bakers.
  • My cousin does a green bean dish with bacon, onions, almonds, and that's really good, but I can duplicate that.  There's something about Sherri's cocktail sauce and my mom's stuffing I just can't get.  My sister makes the best crust too.

My MIL doesn't make anything to die for.  Not even a reservation because her type of restaurants don't take them.
  • *ded* 6.  :)  Your MIL's cooking may kill someone dead one day.

I'm sure MIL doesn't do anything special for her potatoes or green bean casserole, but what ever she does is just right.  Especially her potatoes, they're perfectly creamy and buttery and just yum.
  • I feel the need to share this

My mom, aunt, cousin, sister, some booze, and a bunch of dead turkey
  • yay!

I went to bed w/ a migraine rather than make pumpkin roll last night...but I'll bake it tonight and fill it Thanksgiving morning and it'll be fine.
  • Food coma, indeed.  I hope the excitement doesn't send you into early labor that causes you to miss the pie.

I made cranberry salad last night.  I love my cranberry salad.  Haters gonna hate, but it is delicious.  I put cinnamon in one batch and made H do a tasting and tell me which he liked better.  He said "Ummm, they're both really tart."  Ya think?  It's freaking cranberry salad!  Go get your pink fluff at someone else's house!

He is in charge of making pies today while I work.  I predict that it will take him no less than 6 hours and three trips to the store.

I have my bets on 8 horus and 5 trips.  ;)
  • zsa, how do you make it?

(I bought cranberries to make sauce and for heaven knows what reason, Buffy has decided she LOVES cranberries.  Go figure.  It's all she ate at the church potluck thanksgiving, she didn't even eat my kickass pumpkin bread )
  • It's really simple.  I dump raw cranberries, oranges and apples into the food processor.  I don't let it go to puree, more of a mincing.  For my big batch I used four bags of cranberries, four apples, and three or four big oranges.  I put some of the orange peel in, too.

Then I put strawberry jello (I used three small boxes) into the mix. You can also use just plain sugar to taste, but the jello helps it thicken up a bit.

You can also use a little salt and this year I put quite a bit of cinnamon in it for funzies.

I'll put chopped pecans on top before serving.

  • that sounds pretty reasonable.

I'll buy more cranberries next week.  or friday.
And jello--I think I only have lemon which would be ick.
(HA, no.  next week.  I'm not black-friday=ing at the grocery store)
  • Zsa, my grandma puts gran marnier in that mixture...as well as orange peel.  It's loverly.  No jello though.  Tasty and tart.  I love that stuff.

  • i'm excited. i'm making the turkey, my special artichoke dip, corn bread and pudding pies. i'm also going to sneak in some sauteed asparagus in there somewhere. everyone else is in charge of everything else.
  • I've started my cooking. Bread is baking for the stuffing, cranberries are cooking on the stove, and sweet potatoes are simmering. I am brining the turkey and I'm just going to chug along today with my prep.
  • Ooooh, now I'm totally adding booze to the bowl I keep for myself.
