Dress Question

Alright ladies, I know I've said before that I've had some second thoughts about my dress, but I'm REALLY having second thoughts about my dress. I tried it on tonight, just to see if I was thinking clearly about it and when I put it on, it hit me that it's just not what I am picturing for our day. Plus, the holes for my arms are lace and it's super itchy and I dodn't know how I can get it fixed. It feels a little juvenile and not as sophisticated as I want. I think I bought it in the excitement of a new engagement and not thinking clearly.

I don't where to start looking again. I tried on a few dresses at the wedding shows and then at DB... which is where I bought it from. I'm a size 16 - 18, so I need to go somewhere that sells plus size dresses. I'm looking to stay under $1,000.

Any suggestions? Or any advice that would sway me to keep it?

I don't have a ton of advice, but I know I was having second thoughts about my dress as well.  I posted a pic of me in it on here and the girls were able to make suggestions on how it might work better for me, as well as reinforced for me that it really does look good on me.

Was there a moment in time when you did love it and were sure it was "the one"? Maybe if you go try on some other dresses you'll know for sure what you need to do.  And if it's in your budget to get a new one, and that's what it will take in order to feel beautiful (and comfortable) on your day, then I think you should go for it.

Alfred Angelo has a ton of dresses in that size and under 1,000.  It doesn't hurt to look, but I would really make sure that this isn't the one before continueing another search!  Are you sure you can't make some alterations?  Although some alterations you might as well buy a new dress...tough call! :(  I wish I could help you more...good luck and let us know what you decide!!

No pics of me in the dress... well, that's not entirely true... they do exist. My mom has them but won't share them with me because she doesn't trust me to not show them to FI :o)

But there are some pics of it in my planning bio. There are some things I do love about the dress. I love the back of it. I'm having a really hard time loving the bust. Just doesn't feel like it's my style. Also, I absolutely hate my arms and HATE the way they look in the dress. it's like all I can see are my arms and my chest and thats not what i want to reflect on when I look at pictures down the road. I remember it felt like the one when I tried it on, but I had tried on some pretty horrible looking dresses before it. But I also remember my reaction wasn't strong and everyone ELSE loved it.

I think I may keep looking anyway. It will confirm either way, I guess :o)

I ditto Alfred Angelo for plus-size dresses under $1000.  Or, you could buy mine after my wedding, jk.  But it is a 16W.  There are some other places that others have suggested in the past, I think All That Shimmers in Lakewood and Pearls & Lace in Burien.

But, try to think of ways that you can make yours work first and why you orginally bought it.  What if you lined the arms w/ satin or silk?  Would that help the itching?  Or, what if you made it strapless?  And if you don't like your arms, (1) tan, (2) lift weights, or (3) consider sleeves or a wrap?  You might want to see a seamstress about what can be done b/f buying a whole new dress.

Well, I am not one to talk because I love lace. But if it is itchy that is something a little alteration can fix, she probably even remove the lace all together and build you in some support if you wanted to go strapless. If you want it to be sexy (aka less juvenile), have your seamstress tighten it up a bit and help out in the cleavage department. I also think the base of the dress could go a lot of different ways if you want it to.  Before you think about a new dress, take it to someone who can pin it up and chat with you about it so you can really see it's potential.

The Wedding Bell in Tacoma and All That Shimmers in Lakewood both have affordable options in your size if you're going to get a new dress.  Personally, I don't love most AA dresses - I think for the money you can usually get a higher quality dress from other lines.  And I wasn't in love with their options in larger sizes, either, but they do have them.

I agree, though, that you might want to just take your dress to a well-established seamstress to see what its possibilities might be (and how much they'll cost).  Then make your call.
