Ordering Dresses Online

I was searching for dresses online before I go in to the stores with family. I stumbled across the website Diva By Design. A large amount of the dresses were quite beautiful. However they do not have a retail store. All dresses are ordered via the net. Has anyone shopped for dresses solely this way? Is this a safe idea or not?

I was too nervous to order my wedding dress online but I did order my bridesmaids dresses online from netbride.com and had a great experience. They gave wonderful customer service throughout the process and we recieved the actual designer dresses in the right colors and right sizes in perfect condition.

However I know there are many online stores that are not safe. You have to be very careful that they are by the actual designer and not made to look like the designer dress which many websites do and only tell you in fine print.

Also I am not sure what prices you are looking for but I would be nervous spending that much money online. I recently had a case where an online store took my money and never sent the item.

IF you do decide to I would ask the dress board if they have any experience with that particular website and if not I would search the internet for reviews. I would also look at the fine print and details and when I was ordering from netbride they had a detailed page on all the ways they are able to keep their costs down to be able to give me the price they did so I would look for something like that.

I also might call and talk to them over the phone.

I think it is fine ordering dresses online. I would only order if I'd tried the dress on in person and was measured by a professional and the website you are buying from is an authorized dealer of the designer you are looking into.. otherwise, no way.

All that Shimmers in Lakewood has amazing prices. I'd check there!

Make sure when ordering online you look where the manufacturer is and where the dress will be coming from. We ordered a BM dress for my step-daughter for her cousins wedding (brides choice), it turns out the dress was shipped from China. The dress came and it is completely not like the color on the website, so bride changed her mind. Well, the dress cannot be returned now, so we're stuck with an $85 dollar ugly dress for a 15 year old. BTW - that was Milanoo.com

Piggybacking - thanks, Carissa!  I think I found my dress but was a little shocked at the sticker price.  I am considering ordering from netbride - as they've quoted the same dress for a much much lower price.

JDubenic - I haven't heard of Diva but I would second Carissa in searching for reviews online and checking the dress board.  Please also let us know what you find out!  Good luck.

Oh and I second what Sarack said about going and trying it on and if it's a specific color look at swatches. That is what we did for BM dresses before ordering them. Especially with color since color veries by each persons monitor.

It doesn't sound like you done any dress shopping yet in person. Before you consider buying any dress online, you really MUST go try on a bunch. The majority of wedding gowns are NON-returnable, and that's a huge hunk of change. You might end up surprised that what you thought you wanted doesn't look good on you while something you would completely ignore ends up fabulous. If after trying on a bunch of gowns, you settle on a shape and style that you like but can't find anything just what you want, then maybe look at online stores. However, PP have covered all the dangers about them being masquerading Chinese companies that have half the quality, aren't by the actual designer, etc.

That said, my gown I fell in love with, but only person in the PNW that sold it wanted around $500 more than what I saw as the suggested price range online. I called around to several shops that the designer had listed and ended up ordering my dress from Colorado. So...I did try it on in person. I had a seamstress take professional measurements and she helped me select the correct size from the chart. My dress came in and was great!

i ordered my dress sort of online...it's a storefront in new jersey, but will do orders by phone as well and ship to you free of charge. i would check that the online store is an authorized dealer of the dress mfg, otherwise there is potential you could get a knockoff.

but definitely definitely try it on in a store before you order.

Thank you all for all of your input! I am preparing to go shopping in person. My problem is taking time off from work. I am a Hotel Manager and this is the busiest time of year for us. I am lucky if I get a few minutes a day to think let alone plan my wedding. All of your advise means the world!
