::sigh::

It seems to be rubbing off on others.

Amazing Target Deal on a swing!

I saw a deal posted on the June board for a Fisher Price swing at Target being mispriced from $104.99 to $4.99. The girl was from TX so wasn't sure if the same thing happened all over. I went to a Target today and SCORE! They had one swing left and I bought it for $4.99!!!! Here is the swing:

psh. Target doesn't give a sht about being ethical. Why should I be even remotely concerned about exploiting their own mistake?

I kinda agree with this.  Own up to not proofing the price before sending it out to the floor or posting it online.

I just get annoyed at the Bumpie indignation afterwards when the steal's all gone, or the store just says "no". and THEY CAN'T GET A $5 JUMPAROO!!!!!!!!!!  Or whatever.

If you want "ethical," stay away from business. Target has made a gajillion dollars in profit off of me over the years.  They have an absurdly restrictive return policy that prevents the return of many legitimate items.

on a $104 swing, their profit is probably $52 or so. If I pay $4 for it, they are out forty-eight whole dollars.  Their mistake, and they should suck it up.

If someone points out to them that an item rings up higher than it's priced, do you think they actually fix that in the computer, because that would be the ethical thing to do? No.

Last year, they changed a coupon policy MIDWEEK because there was an amazing, legitimate deal on the LeapFrog alphabet pal.   Sorry, charlie. You should have thought about that before you put it on sale.

I'm just saying, that attitude is crappy, imo.  I don't live your life, or pay your bills, so do what you'd like.

None of those examples is unethical, except *perhaps* the LeapFrog coupon. Profit is not unethical. And I've never had an issue with Target's return policies - and I return almost as often as I buy, if we're talking clothes. They state them clearly and I've been able to return even without a receipt before.

I'd need something far more blatant and egregious before *I* would feel comfortable stealing from them.

I'm in Dharma's camp.  It's the people that whine that they didn't get the cheap swing.

i'm with bacon here -- profit is not unethical.  the return policy is clearly stated in giant white letters on a red background.  they have a right to change their policy -- to stop people like carrann and that coupon fraud lady from taking advantage.

Agreed.   I see nothing wrong with their return policy.

Profit is not unethical, no.  One might say that 90% profit is unethical, but I only have numbers on that for one dish from O'Charley's, so a totally different argument.

The leapfrog thing was totally shitty.  And I don't think buying something for a stated price is unethical at all, whether they lose money on it or not and whether it was a mistake or not.

And yes, griping when the fix an obvious mistake is obnoxious. But if you're the person who finds the mistake? I think they should honor the price for that person, then fix the mistake, and the person who found the mistake should probably be thanked, since it theoretically saved them plenty of losses.

changing a business practice is not unethical.  was the leapfrog thing the only thing effected by the coupon policy change?  it maye have been the only thing that was effected MOST by the policy change, or perhaps the only thing that people are willing to whine about.

[QUOTE]And I don't think buying something for a stated price is unethical at all, whether they lose money on it or not and whether it was a mistake or not.

i don't think it is, either.  my issue is that taking advantage of something that you know is grossly mismarked is unethical.  it is basically extreme couponing fraud -- you know how it will ring up in the computer system, and you take advantage of it.
