Has this been discussed?

7 y/o gets plastic surgery (has her ears pinned back) to avoid bullying.  Kid says she hasn't been bullied.  Mom says she has.

Punching the bullies in the face would have been cheaper.

I don't know.  A lot of kids get their ears pinned.  I'm not sure I see it as much different than braces.

Kids have been getting their ears pinned back for ages.  I don't put that into the elective plastic surgery category, even though it is.   This a non-issue to me.

I had a friend who had this done in elementary school.  Made all the difference.

    This would also be bullying.

IMO, kids aren't bullied for being/looking/etc weird.
They're bullied because they're targets for bullying because of who they are.
If this kid is going to be a bullying victim, the fact that she had surgery on them iss JUST as much of a target as the ears were.

I'm side-eying the heck out of this not being 'real' plastic surgery...yo're cutting the ears and surgically moving them--how is that not surgery?

And since kid didn't care, it rubs me the wrong way...'here, change what is unique and imperfect about yourself because although you don't hate it, someone else might someday so let's nip that in the bud!"

Fighting back when you're bullied isn't bullying, ffs.

It depends on who is doing the punching? The victim, then no. The victims big brother, then yes.

Agree with this.  If the girl is bully bait, she's bully bait.  Her ears have nothing to do with why she's bullied, it's just the easiest button to push.  If the ears are pinned, she'll get picked on for something else.  Fattie, skinny bitch, freckleface, dweeb, spazz, wrong selection of cafeteria food at the lunch line, wore the wrong type of sneakers, mom kisses girl before she goes to school in an Oldsmobile station wagon...

And what precendent does this set?  If some other person doesn't like a part of you, then you must put yourself through risk of morbidity (and heaven forbid, mortality) of surgery and anaesthesia to please them?

I never even considered a big brother punchout.  I guess that's only child mentality.

It's a shame she did that. I think her ears gave her personality. I agree that bully bait is bully bait, regardless of the "flaw"
