My mom basically came back and said that she and my grandma couldn't pay to change their flights, so they would just have to miss the party. I was irritated at first, and then I reasoned my way through it: I'll still see them, just not the day of the party; there will be other parties; sh1t happens, etc. I went to lunch feeling disappointed, and hoped I'd feel better after lunch. I didn't.
Shortly after I received my mom's original email, I forwarded it to my brother with a note about "Seriously, can you believe this?" He just replied.
"Mom asked me last night if Dad and M__ were coming down for Maddie's birthday. I had actually just talked to them yesterday, because I went over there for lunch. Anyway, they were really excited about coming down for Maddie's birthday. So when I told Mom they were coming down, she was not too happy."
So now I'm wondering if she's even telling the truth about "accidentally" booking the tickets on the wrong day.
Show of hands? Accident vs. shenanigans?
