[QUOTE]Well, maybe. Pregnancy May Trigger OCD Symptoms – And Link Could Be Hormonal For all the ladies who need to use birth control, here’s another reason to keep on doing so: pregnancy can bring on or worsen OCD symptoms, a new study has found. The study, conducted by researchers at the Yale University School of Medicine, adds to the growing body of evidence suggesting that Obsessive Compulsive Disorder symptoms can be brought on or worsened by pregnancy, Reuters reports. For the two million adults in America who have OCD, symptoms often arose during their childhood or adolescence. Interviewing a relatively small sample of women, the researchers, lead by Dr. Ariadna Forray, found that 32 per cent of the women had their first OCD symptoms during pregnancy or shortly after they gave birth. For women who already had OCD, symptoms worsened 33 per cent of the time. Interestingly, for 22 per cent, symptoms actually improved. All of this could suggest that there is a horomone-related sub-group of OCD. However, others, such as Prof. Paul Salkovskis , from King’s College London, believe the link has less to do with hormones, and more to with the anxieties and responsibilites associated with motherhood. No matter the exact cause, Ashley Fulwood, from charity organization OCD-UK has said: Often the OCD will shift its focus onto a fear that the baby must be kept safe, so they have to clean everything. If we can get to the root of the initial trigger for OCD, that will improve awareness and help reduce the burden of this hugely disruptive condition. From www.dailymail.co.uk via clp.ly Dr. Forray, from the Yale study, added that doctors and women should be aware of the potential link between pregnancy and OCD. She added that while it is normal for women to have some anxiety during pregnancy, they should definitely talk with their doctor if repeated thoughts and behaviors start to cause major distress and interfere with functioning and daily life. Any more studies like this, and women may no longer feel “OK either way” about pregnancy. Source: Carnal Nation ( http://clp.ly/ARKC )

  • My OCD didn't get work. My overall anxiety did though.
