Wedding Woes

::BMom::

I felt very grown up when I realized I have a stance on our city's sanitiation services. I'd gladly pay $2.50 more a month, because if we don't, they are taking away a lot of awesome stuff. I am hoping all of the people who aren't willing to shell out a few extra bucks are the ones who stay home.

The city comes and collects yard clippings. In return, you can go and get free compost. I've heard it is good stuff (but it stinks).

Also, they used to have an seasonal clean up, where you could put ANYTHING out on the curb and they would haul it away. Old fencing? No prob. Broken washer? SURE! This has been canceled, indefinetly. <- I am sure I spelled that incorrectly.

Also, there are two recycling centers in town where you can take cardboard. The curb side recycling people won't take it, because their trucks are open and the cradboard flies out. Also, people who do not have curbside recycling can recycle all of their stuff here (cans, glass). These will be closed without the increase. That would suck.

I have asked around and we could bring our cardboard to the University campus, but people in apartments wouldn't have anywhere to ake their stuff. It would suck. We are one of the 'greenest' cities in the state and all of that would change over $2.50 a month. Blergh.....

    See, we pay for a lot of local stuff that I love - I love our city - and people always find this weird about me. But I can move to another city if I don't want to pay for this stuff. This is how just about everything should get done - on extremely local levels. Then people really have the choice of how they live, because we have freedom of movement.

    Yeah...and even with the added cost, the service is still one of the cheapest in the state. Only one other city is lower and they have a higher povery rate and people in that category pay less, so it brings down the city average.

    It just pisses me off because I know people are going to have a knee-jerk reaction and say no to any added cost, but they don't know what they will be losing. Services are free.
