2:30AM any pain relief from the epidural was gone, but my legs were dead from mid –hip down. Nurse checked and I was complete, but somehow I wasn’t quite ready to push. She kept asking if I felt the urge the push and I never did. Since I was complete I was going to have to tough out the contractions. Nurse checked on me again at 3AM. Still no urge to push, but she decided to have me do some “test pushes” to see what would happen.
3AM. And 1 push = sets of 3. Nurse says she wants me to do 3 or 4 pushes and if anything happens then it’s baby time and she’ll call the doctor in. After 2 sets of pushing she could see the baby’s head. It was time to have a baby. She leaves to call the doctor and tells me not to push.
Since I couldn’t push out a baby I pooped instead as I breathed through more contractions. I managed to start laughing, looked at H and said, “I pooped on the table. I think I pooped on the table. Did I poop on the table?” Then I threw up.
3:15ish Doctor arrives and an army of nurses rolled in. Doc popped his head in and left. A minute later a different nurse asks my nurse if we’re ready for him. We answered in stereo, “Yes, yes, I’m very ready.” Doc walks in and is getting set-up, I’m still breathing through the contractions, but the urge to push was intensifying. I asked nurse if I could push yet, “Oh yeah doctor’s here go ahead.” So I started pushing away before he had a chance to sit down. I kept asking H if he could see more of the head because I needed to know I was getting somewhere to help me mentally get through the pain.
The moment arrived for that last big push. I put everything I had into and the head popped out. I took another deep breath and kept pushing until I heard Doc say, “TAKE IT EASY TAKE IT EASY!” I looked down to see Adam’s body come FLYING out of my vagina. I couldn’t help myself and said, “OH MY GOD THAT FELT SO GOOD!”
Doctor let my mom take a couple pictures before the nurse army swept Adam away. The pitocin was still going and doc upped it to get the placenta delivered. My body was so overwhelmed and the contractions still coming that I couldn’t hold Adam right away so I told H to let Mom, now grandma, hold him. As soon as the placenta was out I felt worlds better and was able to hold my baby.
MIL is thrilled you're joining the family.
