Feeling refreshed today

My mom came over yesterday so I could go to the denist.  I got to spend  glorious hours alone- I don't care it was at the dentist and the grocery.  Ran into a friend at the store- I love that I am starting to put away the GPS and I'm running into not just people I know, but people I can call friends.  We even got invited to a pumpkin party.

When I got home my mom and M2 were both in different clothes.  Yep, the little one had pooed all over hersel and grandma.  Since mom was digging through laundry anyway she went ahead and folded 2 loads.

DH was home on time last night and we had a nice balanced dinner that the kids ate without bribery or dickery.  And best of all we all slept until 645 this morning.  I don't remember the last time I've slept this late.

I'm going to need it for the rest of the week too.  I've got a lot of baking to do for a fundraiser, plus gettting the kids' rooms ready to paint this weekend.  I've also got to do some massive cooking this week.

Re: Feeling refreshed today

  • Sounds like a major WIN.  :) YAY for mom.  What's the massive cooking for?

I'm just glad DefConn didn't get up between 2am and 4am as he's been doing on and off for the past couple weeks.  I think he's congested at night from the changing weather.   My humidifier filters better get here soon.  Between the extra moisture and the white noise, I hope he starts sleeping better.

M2 was up twice the night before so I feel your pain.

The cooking is for a few things.  Dad is coming this weekend and loves my veggie soup so I'm making a huge pot for the weekend and to freeze for baby.

And tragedy whoring:  A woman in our neighborhood died last week.  Her 6th grade son is the one that found hef.  There is also a 3rd grader.  I'm making a hot meal to take this week and I'm making a few things I can freeze for them and for baby.

My women's club has a big fundraiser some I'm making 4 loaves of pumpkin bread and chili to sell.  (AF it's supposedly a HUGE craft to-do).

I'm also up for snack at preschool so pumpkin muffins it is!

  • That's really sad.  Poor kids, especially the 6th grader.  Do they know how she died?

I'm starting to come around to pumpkin.  I used to reject anything pumpkin, but I had a Pumpkin Spiced latte last week from Starbucks and some pumpkin loaf in the past week and they were both pretty delicious.  I'm not sure I'll ever like pumpkin pie, but I also think that has to do with the texture.

I love a good veggie soup.  How do you make yours?
  • Psst- the starbucks has no real pumpkin.  Pumpkin pie is kind of weird, but my sister makes such a good crust it's worth it.

    Veggie soup:
4 qts water, 2 tsp salt to a boil.  Add 2 lbs beef, 4 cups cabbage, 1.5 cups onion, 6 carrots, 3/4 cup celery.  Simmer for 30 mins

Add 1 can whole tomatoes (undrained), a box each of frozen peas, lima bean, and italian green beans; a carn of corn (drained) 1 can tomato paste, 2 potatoes diced, 1 sweet potato, 1-2 Tbls parsely, 1/2 tsp ground clove, 1/2 tsp pepper,. 1 Tble salt.  Simmer 3.5 hrs.

It makes a ton, but freezes great.  It's a bit time consuming, but only in that it's on the stove for awhile.

  • Poor young man.:(

I don't know how you ladies do it with the lack of sleep. I would be crazycakes.

  • I don't know the details of the death.  I just know that friend found the 6th grader crying in the driveway.  She just felt like something was wrong and ran to him.  He just kept saying "my mom."  It was time for the elementary bus to come so a lot of the neighbors were out.  Friend took the boy into her home, another mom got the 3rd grader off the bus, someone else called 911, friend got ahold of the grandparents, basically the whole street took over.

They've set up food and people to help with getting kids off to school in the morning.  Since I don't know the family that well, I'm passing food through friend and taking her kid a bit so she can help them.
  • That is so heartbreaking.   It's great that people were there for the kids and sprung into action. Sounds like you have some really awesome neighbors.

  • Holy hell that's horrible. That poor kid.

I feel you on the sleep. On Sunday, I was up at 3:45 am for my flight. By the time I got to the hotel, I was wiped and I was out by 9:30 pm. I slept until 5 am only to wake up and turn a light off I had left on, then slept till 7:30. I felt so good yesterday morning. On the other hand, I didn't fall asleep until 1:30 am last night and was up at 6 am. I guzzled a latte in about 3 minutes today.
