Politics in here

I'm a Democrat, but I do try really hard to keep a balanced view and not think my party is the end of be all and all that stuff.  Ih ave some real problems with our platform this year, but it still is fewer problems than the Repub, Green or Lib platforms.

YESTERDAY WAS THE MOST AWESOMESAUCE CONVENTION EVER.  I wasn't this excited back in 2004 b/c Obama wasn't my first, second or third pic for president, so I was nursing wounds.  And the speakers just didn't seem to be as amazing.  But holy balls, I finally gave up trying to be impartial and starting cheering at my computer screen and on twitter and FB.  If I felt that much energy in my house by myself, I can't imagine what it must've been like at the actual convention.

The bests of the night (I can't pick just one):  Strickland, Ledbetter (one tweet comments she left the stage with a trail of testicles behind her), Tammy Duckworth (I would move to vote for her), the Lihn family and Patrick.  I thought Castro did a good job and Michelle was eloquent and moving (though I think it veered a bit close to the same complaints I had about Ann Romney).

I have no idea how they're going to keep this energy up.

  • I also have already read all the fact check stuff.  We did...alright, though I'd rather not be squirming about "alright".  I was pretty frowny face about Maria C...I can't remember her last name, but I think that was pretty much a big fat lie on stage.

  • I really only watched Ted Strickland and Michelle.

Man, I love Michelle.  But that speech was so drippy and over-the-top.  I know that is what she had to do, though.  It's her job to make us all want to swoon over Obama instead of just vote for him.

I thought Ted Strickland was pretty good.  I LOVED the Mathew 6:21 zinger.

  • Yeah, her speech was exactly that, Zsa.  Once I started thinking about it, I wondered what the heck she could've talked about anyway.  It was a little more focused and nuanced than Ann's, but it was basically the same thing.

She looked like she's way skinny too.

Also, feminist alert:  I LOVED her shoes.
  • Her shoes were pretty cute.  And I liked her dress, but it felt like a luncheon kind of dress, not a DNC keynote speaker kind of dress.

  • I actually think Michelle did exactly what that speech was to accomplish and then some.  Be a counterpoint/comparison to Ann Romney's and lay the groundwork for "you know exactly what you're getting policywise from him"

Sorry V, that speech was aimed squarely at the same sentimental mommy track that Ann Romney spoke to at the RNC.  Only add in something for those DINKS/singletons that are still paying unholy student loan payments and are only a paycheck or two away from financial disaster.

And that dress was delish.  Yeah, it wasn't politician/business polished style, but that wasn't the purpose of her speech anyway,

And yay for Patrick's "grow a backbone".  'Bout damn time someone up and said it.
