her question is about bringing a gift?

i have about five other questions.

DEAR MISS MANNERS -- I have been invited to a piano recital to be performed by my boss' 20-year-old son. Though I am casual friends with her, we do not socialize outside of work. The recital will be held on a Sunday afternoon in her home. It will last 45 minutes and will be followed by light refreshments. Approximately 40 people have been invited. Are attendees normally expected to bring gifts to such events? If so, what is considered appropriate?

My first question: Why is a 20 year old having a piano recital at his parent's house?

I have a lot of questions too.  Like why is a 20 year old giving a piano recital in his mother's home?  If he's good enough for public performances, shouldn't he be in college or somthing? Also, who has room for 40 people and a piano in their home?

I can probably think of more, but that's enough for now.

    The appropriate question should be:

    Dear Miss Manners,
What's a good excuse to get out of going to my boss' 20 year old son's piano recital in her home?

What? This is dumb. I don't go hanging paintings all over my house and invite halfahundred people over for an "art show".

Why did they not just rent a space? Are they just so proud of his obviously-not-professional-yet ivory tickling that they need 40 of their dearest 3rd tier friends to hear it?

I would bet money that there will be pamphlets and cards that tell guests how they can hire the aging prodigy for their own parties this holiday season.

Dear Rain, Not Today. Sincerely, My Parade
