Is anyone garage sale smart?

We have a community garage sale this weekend.  We have books (hardbacks $1, paperbacks a quarter), some pictures I'll do for $2-10, a garage door opener ($50) and a dehumidifier ($25), plus some furniture $30-50.

One, do those prices sound reasonable?
Two how much change should I have?  I was thinking $30 in singles $50 in fives and and  $20?

    That's reasonable, IMO.
(high end of reasonable for my area--but take that w/ consideration of where I live.  In a nice neighborhood garage sale, it'd still be reasonable--neighborhood sales = slightly higher prices)

I'd have enough 20's to change ?$100 if you can, because you always get an idiot or 2...but I'd assume most people carry $20 bills and if you can change those, you're probably set.
And have a lto of loose chagne--quarters especially.

I figured people would want to try to bargain with the bigger items so I thought I'd start higher.

DH has a huge change jar I was going to keep just inside the house for back up.  The kids also have a bunch of $20s for back up.
  • Those definitely sound reasonable.

I'm not sure about change, but I definitely grab a roll or two of quarters to be on the safe side.  I'm always the idiot that has cash and never any change.

yeah, if you seee your neighbors have everything for 1/3 of the price, you can always lower yours :)

  • Your prices aren't high at all, about average for my area anyway.  I buy all my books at yardsales, always for .25 paperback and the hardback vary, a good newish release I have paid $2 or $3 but most people have them for $1.  People will offer you less for everything, but don't take it to early, furniture always sells if in decent shape so hold off and don't sell to cheap.
  • It's called garage sailing, adurr.

DED @ PMeg.   That just doesn't get old for me.

6fsn - what types of furniture do you have for sale?  I'll be in your area Saturday morning.   (grumble...gosh darn early morning soccer games....grumble)

I was thinking about the make up too ;)

We have 2 light tan microfiber club chairs, a medium brown microfiber chaise, and 4 wooden dining room chairs (this are on the smaller side, but have low profile arm).

We were going to also have a high chair, a bouncy seat, and a rocking chair....

Hmmm... the club chairs and chaise sound appealing.
Good thing you didn't sell the baby stuff earlier...

I can e-mail you a pic if you're interested.  There is a small spot on the one chair, but otherwise they are in good shape.  The colors are far enough apart that they can be used together too.
