Wedding Woes

book people: Hemingway

I'm going to order some Hemingway to read in preparation for, and during, my vacation. Any recos?

I've read A Farewell to Arms. BFF didn't recommend An Old Man and The Sea (sounds like my life).

I love a collection of short stories, so that is already in the cart.

Re: book people: Hemingway

  • Going out on a limb here...do you- enjoy reading Steinbeck?
Because, universal truth, you can either enjoy Steinbeck or Hemmingway, not both.  (you can acknowledge the genius of both, but I"ve yet to find anyone who enjoys both)

If you like Steinbeck, 'Old man and the Sea' is the most Steinbeck-esque of the Hemmingway books.

"For whom the Bell Tolls" is on m0y 0re-read list though, FWIW
  • I recommend comic books.

  • Yeah, I don't like either. I recommend romances and urban fantasies. And Stieg Larsson.

  • I loved A Moveable Feast.  Its about lounging around Paris.  What could be better?

  • zsa - I was going to get a Sun Also Rises, about the ex-pats in Paris. Sounded good for the same reason.

  • I read The Sun Also Rises in hs.  I liked it okay then, but I should re-read.  I would probably like it better now.

  • I just ordered it. We can read it together and then meet in the tree house to discuss.

  • MinM, did you know about "This Is A Call"?  Dave Grohl's biography?  Just came out.
  • The reviews I read weren't good, Varuuna.
