Wedding Woes

just nodding along

and then BAM!

Dear Amy: A good friend of mine has fallen victim to an Internet affair. He has convinced her that she should ruin her marriage and family life for the adventure. Although her husband is aware of it, he sits torn and broken waiting for the outcome.

Several of her friends have advised her to dump this Internet jerk. She has gone out and committed adultery with him. They communicate regularly.

I know from experience that all marriages are not rosy but believe divorce should be the last resort. She seems unaware of how this affects anyone other than herself.

Should I stay out of it and let her ruin her life and that of many others, or step up and tell her how stupid she is for falling prey to this? Her husband is not perfect, but how many perfect marriages are there anyway?

I'd love to have an affair, but I chose my partner and made a lifelong commitment to my husband.

    Hold up.  Girl sounds jealous.

    Just sayin'.

And for some reason I swapped FORNICATE for communicate (in re: to: "they communicate regularly")  Uh huh.

I was super confused by all the pronouns in the first paragraph. The writer's friend is the *woman* in the affair, correct? Because at first I read it as the friend was the guy who had convinced some woman to leave her husband, and he (the guy) was waiting on her decision. But that didn't seem "victim-y" enough.

Also, does her friend have no agency in this? "Fallen victim", please. Girlfriend is a grown-ass woman and can make her own decisions, even when they're bad ones.

I'm not gonna touch the throwaway "My marriage sucks, too, but you don't see me doing anything about it!"

    Ha. I have questions.

    1. How do you fall victim to an affair? Is that like someone snatching your purse, but it's your goodies instead?

    2. Yes, I would tell my friend she was all kinds of dumb.

    3. Me thinks she is lusting over her neighbor, and wishing they could do the freak nasty.

"But honey, it was an accident! I tripped, fell, and landed on his junk!"
