Just FYI, Walmart has these really structured canvas covered metal baskets at Walmart in the picnic section.  They have handles and could hold six or seven loaves of bread (for size reference).  Looks like they would be perfect for holding misc. trunk items.  Price:  $8.

O - You need something waterproof.  Canvas leaks all over the place.
