DH had his mid-year and his boss said that once DH has his degree in his hot little hands, the world is his oyster and furthermore, he'll give him a good rec if DH wanted to move up in the company. Moving up in the company could (OK *will*) entail relocation, but we've known this for awhile.
Ffwd to yesterday, DH's HR guy was in the office so he sat down with him and asked about professional development and what he can do to make sure he's ready for the next step. His HR guy said, "Well you go to the website and apply for a job and hope the hiring manager wants to interview you." DH says, "Well how do I make sure I have the experience that they're looking for? Is there something I can do here and now?" He said, "Well you guys in these micro-plants are kind of at a disadvantage because there's so little management that there's no where to get the experience." DH says, "Well can you help me with that?"
His HR guy's response? "Make sure that you have a resume that stands out.' What the what?
Needless to say, I think DH is going to be shopping his resume to other companies come January.
