Wedding Woes

San Antonio - Part 2 "Remember the Alamo!"

The rest of the drive to San Antonio was uneventful. We arrived in San Antonio around 4:30pm CDT. Barbie went into the hotel to check in and get the room keys. Since Barbie has status with the hotel, we got a suite. Barbie went into the room to check for bedbugs, and when everything looked ok, she went out to the car to get DK and Wolverine. DK loaded everything onto one luggage cart and pushed it to the room. Barbie carried Wolverine in her carseat. We put together the pack n play, and put Wolverine in it while we figured out what to do for the night.

Barbie and Ken decided to go for a walk and find a place to eat. Barbie and Ken put Wolverine into her stroller and started walking around town. DK forgot to grab Wolverine’s bottle, so he ran back to the hotel while Barbie kept walking. Barbie stopped to take pictures of a neat church and some bildings to give DK a chance to catch up. They found the Riverwalk, which they were surprised to find was below street level. They found a ramp and went down to the river.

Barbie took pictures of DK and Wolverine and some boats on the river. They walked along the river for a while, but couldn’t find a way to get to the other side, so they decided to take an elevator up to the surface. We got out of the elevator in the middle of a restaurant which we found out was Lüke by John Besh. Barbie was excited because she wanted to eat there during the trip. A nice waitress showed Barbie and DK how to get back out to the street.

After another 15 minutes of walking, Barbie and Ken found the Alamo. Barbie was excited and took some pictures. Since it was around 7:30 or 8 pm, the Alamo was closed to visitors. Most of the local stores were closed too. Barbie and Ken walked for a bit longer trying to find a way to get back down to the Riverwalk that didn’t involve taking the stroller down a set of stairs. We saw the San Antonio cops arresting an underage girl who was drunk in public. She could barely stand up and kept falling into things – cars, the cops, her friends, etc.

Barbie and DK finally found their way back down to the Riverwalk, and started looking for a place to eat. They decided on Iron Cactus, primarily because it was 9pm, they were hungry, and it was there. Barbie and DK had to wait about 15 minutes for a table inside, so DK took Wolverine to the bathroom to change her. When DK got back, they seated us. The service was pretty bad, and it took a waiter almost 15 minutes to come to the table.

DK got water to drink and Barbie ordered a “Cactus Juice” Margarita. It was frozen with salt on the rim and had Tequila, Everclear, Midori Melon Liqueur, DeKuyper Blue Curacao and Margarita Mix. They gave us chips and 2 kinds of salsa. The salsa was ok, but nothing fantastic. We ordered 2 dishes to share - Spinach Artichoke & Grilled Portobello Mushroom Enchiladas (Three corn tortillas filled with white cheese, spinach, artichoke and mushrooms, topped with verde sauce. Served with black beans and cilantro lime rice) and Ancho Chile Rubbed Pork Tenderloin (Marinated pork tenderloin seasoned with the Iron Cactus ancho chile rub. Served over chipotle demi-glace sauce, with green chile mashed potatoes and garlic herb broccoli.) The food was mediocre at best – the enchiladas were the better of the 2 dishes. Wolverine started to get fussy, so we just bolted down the food and left. Barbie and DK walked around the river a bit more looking for another elevator to get back up to the street level. Eventually they gave up and carried the stroller up some stairs. They walked back to the hotel where they passed out in bed.

  • Oooh, I want to see pics of the church. I wonder if it's where I sang when the choir went to SA.

Your food descriptions are making me hungry!
You are doing a much better job than Bill and Kelly.  I haven't seen any mispellings.
  • Did DK ever give you a rose?  Perhaps one covered in glitter?
