There was an argument recenlty about the slideshow. I was going to put it together. I have the songs picked out and everything. I also didn't want it very long. We went to get pictures of my FI and the MIL got upset because she wanted to hire someone and she had her song and this was "her thing" and she had her own ideas. She contributed some money and is decorating the sanctuary how she thinks would be nice. My mom and I are paying for almost all the wedding though. Am I so wrong to have the slideshow how I want it?

I would be okay with letting the guy make it, but if I did I don't think I would be able to tell him what I wanted because she would take over because she bought it. I wasn't expecting this to be a big deal. Oh boyyy

    what does the slideshow have to do with decorating a sanctuary?

    I'd cut out the slideshow altogether too....just not worth it.

    what is "the slideshow"? 

    I was successfully married without a slideshow, so I'm not sure what the purpose of "the slideshow" is. I'd just eliminate it - it's causing too much drama, and will likely bore the guests.

    Is there really no way to compromise?  It seems like such a small thing to get worked up about.  Maybe she wanted it hired because she doesn't know what to do.  Let her help put together the song and slides she wants.  Then put your song and pics.

    The slideshow thing was one of the few things I actually put my foot down for. My mom was "dying" to have one. No one wants to see pictures of me and FI from when we were tiny to when we got together in college set to cheesy music.

    That's what I suggested too... I said she could pick out whatever pictures she wanted. I was just going to have one 6 minute song though to make it short and sweet. I guess I'll have to wait to see how this turns out.

    This makes it sound like you are just tolerating her.  This is her son getting married.  She's excited and wants to contribute.  Why can't you work together on something?  The slideshow being something?  It doesn't have to be either her or you.  It can be both of you.

    "Bohemian Rhapsody", I think, would be the most appropriate song for this slideshow.


    It fits the length, AND it talks about mothers in it!

    i did not have a slideshow, but i have sat through many.  MANY.

    my sister made one for her moh speech.  it was four slides long.  before she cued it up, she turned to me and said, "don't get mad, mmkay?" and then whipped around and started her speech.

    Thanks for the input! I guess I should make it shorter than that. I didn't want a long show either to bore people to death. The one she had in mind that they did for my FSIL had a minimum of 3 songs and was very long. I'm thinking 1 song, A Page Turned. It has a part about a boy, a part about a girl, then a part about them together all in 1 song.
