A Dog Poo Poll. BE HONEST.

This morning I watched our neighbor watch her dog take a dump in our yard.  She then walked away without picking it up.  I'm so irritated that I still haven't decided what to do about it.  Suggestions?

Also, I want to know...

Also, we always pick up after our dogs. It is unsanitary and a hazard to other dogs to leave it on the ground. That is how diseases get spread, yo.

My husband, Oh how I love that man, picked it up and brought it to the offending person's house and gave it to them.

Oh I plan on saying/doing something.  I didn't want to walk out there and be all immature about it.  I want to be creative.

This isn't a situation that warrants creativity. In this case, being direct is the best approach. "Don't leave your dog's shyt in my yard: it is unsafe and disrespectful. If you continue to do so, I'll take it as an invitation to use your yard as a bathroom."

It was 6am.  I was half naked getting ready for work.  Don't want to cause a big scene and look like the dumb one.

If it happens again, I would walk out with a baggie and hand it to her before she walks away.

Happening one time does not warrant a "creative" (aka hostile) response.  Act like an adult and either step out your door or call her on the phone to ask that she not leave dog poo in your yard again.

I'm not one to ask since I grew up in the woods, and you don't pick up dog poo in the woods.

Oh, but assuming I let my dog poo in someone's yard I would pick it up. And assuming someone else's dog pood in my yard (and I didn't live in the woods) I would let it happen once and pick it up, and if it happened again I would take them a box of ziplock bags and a note nicely asking them to pick up their dog's excrement.

If it continued to happen after that I would go to my HOA and have it taken care of.

Last time I tried to agree with this statement it posted to Pittsburgh boards.  Anyway, this is what I do.  I'm surprised how many people in my neighborhood and at the park don't pick up.  I keep a stash of bags in my stroller just in case.

I"m w/ butter cookie on the woods...I didn't before I was an adult, pick up poo.

But saying "did you forget a baggie?  did you need me to get you one?" (even just from a window) is sufficient--shame is powerful and useful.

(I"m a picker-upper.  Hell, last time we had Dawg at the dog park, I had forgotten a baggie (actually, I had left my purse in the car because, hey, I didn't need it, I had 3 baggies in my pocket.  But I ran out because Dawg was a pooping machine that day), I stood by and 'guarded' the poo for 15 minutes while the Mr. hunted us down a baggie.
There are ALWAYS baggies in my purse--even if it means I have to dump out the baggie of tylenol and steal the ziploc)

There's a park near our house and the poop has gotten so bad, a resident nailed a large bag full of baggies, along with a note to several trees.

Coirker has a neighbor who buys old, expired fish.  He sits on his porch and throws them at people who let their dog poo in his yard.  You could try that.

[QUOTE]sometimes dogs take more than one poo at a time and they might be unprepared.

Very true.  That has happened to me before at a park and someone gave me a bag.  This lady, however, lives two houses down.  She should pick it up just so the neighbors don't associate her as the dog owner that lets her dog poo everywhere.  Maybe I'll come home this afternoon and it will be picked up... Not holding my breath though.

one of the teenagers in my parents neighborhood let his dog poop on my parents' lawn and just walked away. my dad was outside doing yard work at the time and chased the kid down the street to his house. When the mom answered the door, my dad told her that her son would be coming back up to our house to pick up after his dog or she would find the poop smeared on her front door the next morning. The kid walked back up the street, picked up the poop and apologized.

If it happens again (and it probably will) webcam it.  Add captions, and leave it and the poop at the front door.  Put at the end of the film, we are always watching.

    I do like Barbie's approach too :)

WTH? This isn't a big deal. Stick your head out the door, say "Excuse me. You need to pick that up. Thanks." And then make sure she does it. This exact same situation happened to me before, and the guy was shamed into doing it. The fecker even had a damn bag WITH HIM. He just didn't want to pick it up.

Grow up, grow a pair, and tell them. Or else just STFU about it.
