Wedding Woes

wdyt?

bride asks friend to be a bridesmaid.  friend accepts.  later, bride tells friend that because friend does not belong to bride's religion, friend will not be allowed to walk up the aisle or stand at the altar.  instead, friend will sit in the front pew.

I didn't vote SS, but I need details. Is she the only maid? Do the other maids get to walk? Won't they also sit in the front pew? WTF kind of religion is this?

If I were the bride, I wouldn't make her buy a dress or anything (because I wouldn't make anyone), but I'd list her in the program as a maid. And I'd apologize up and down for my weird church.

Did the bride know that if the BM was not of the same faith that this would be the case or did she find out after asking the BM?

she is not the only bm, but the other bms are of the religion, as are most of the gms.  so she will be sitting in the pew of honor with at least another person.

the religion doesn't matter, but let's pretend it's santeria, okay?

bride did know about the limitations of her faith, but wanted friend in the party anyway.

Why wouldn't the bride tell friend this when she asked her?

remember, everyone on tk says that being in the bridal party is such an honor, so bride thought friend would be so flattered to be asked.

I third NOLA.  I think that's some BS.  The bride should have been upfront.

I would not buy a BM dress if I were the friend.

Well, it would have been an honor *if* bride had been honest. Now it just feels like a racket, and I'd bow out.

I really want to know the religion,  just because I have one in mind and I want to know if I'm right.

    I want to SS this.
Stay part of the BP, don't spend $$$ on a dress.  She can be ahonor attendant w/o a dress.

Does it rhyme with shoreman, Conn?

Though...I doubt they would even LET you a non-shoreman in there.

I thought they didn't let anyone in who isn't super-perfect-shiny for Jesus. That's why they don't invite many people, if any, to the ceremony, but they'll have a huge reception. Because even if their guests are practitioners, the likelihood that they'll be good enough for the temple is almost nil.
