Put the rice and water in the pot at the same time, cover and bring it to a boil, then turn it down to simmer, stirring periodically to avoid boil-over and burnt bottoms.  Your rice will be fabulous.  Rice to water proportions:

regular long-grain or sticky sushi rice:  1 cup rice to 2 cups water
parboiled or basmati:  1 cup rice to a little over 2 cups water
brown rice:  1 cup rice to 2.25 cups water

If you leave the lid on for 15 minutes when it's all done and just let it stand, it stops being sticky.

Stirring lets the steam out. You need to keep it covered so it absorbes all the water.

mrsmyrtle, IIRC, it was something like two hours at 200 degrees or some other petri nonsense.

you are supposed to wrap it in bacon, and fire it at 375 for an hour.

Also, do you rinse the rice before cooking?  I always rinse basmati, but not regular stuff.

when there are no leftovers, i know i didn't make enough food.  that's how grandma did it, that's how mom does it, and it's worked out pretty well so far.  everyone goes home with something for lunch tomorrow.

meatloaf should have a crust.  and you check doneness with a instant read thermometer.
