Wedding Woes

Poor Toby.

I'm a crappy parent.

Friday night, we were all going to bed, and I want to pick up Toby. I had my phone in my hand and when I had him in my arms and shifted his weight, I accidentally jabbed him in the rump with it. He yelped, but he's a giant boob who yelps at the littlest things, so we didn't think too much of it.

Saturday morning, I woke up to a whimpering Toby about six inches from my face. I figured he just needed to go outside, so I got up and went to the back door to let him out. He just stood there, so I put my hand on his butt, and he collapsed in a yelping, whimpering heap on the floor.

Instant panic.

He didn't want us to touch his rump. He couldn't get up or down very easily, either.

We called an emergency vet (because we don't have a regular vet yet), and they told us we should bring him in.

But we couldn't move him. Every time we'd go to pick him up, he'd just whimper and yelp. It was heartbreaking.

We ended up giving him some aspirin and letting him just lay around all day. We observed him and came to the conclusion that he wasn't swollen, he wasn't limping, he wasn't acting like it hurt him any time other than when someone touched it, so it didn't seem like there was anything broken. He probably just had a deep bruise.

He still had an appetite and was happy to receive any treats (and man, did he get a ton of treats). He wasn't drooling, his gums looked good, and he didn't have a temperature, so we decided to just watch him. If he was still hurting on Sunday, we were going to take him in.

Thank God we woke up Sunday and he was better. Still not 100%, but definitely an improvement. Yesterday was even more so. I'd say at this point, he's 95% better.

I feel just awful about it. My poor baby spent the weekend with a sore butt. :(
