This is a very regional thing. It's going to be hard for you to get a sense of what's appropriate without consulting people in your same market.

Our photographer starts around $3000. We went with one of her high end packages, though (added an assistant, several extra hours, 2 parent albums, one leather-bound large album for us, all digital proofs, 500 prints, a few other things) so it was much more expensive than that, but we thought it was still reasonable given prices for other photographers in our area.

  • wow I guess 900 is a great deal.

  • My photographer was my childhood friend so I got an insane deal. $1000.00 for 7 hours. a minimum of 500 pictures to be taken and we get all of our photos posted on the internet and negatives.

  • Its definitly a regional thing. I'd check your local board to get an idea of prices near you.

I got a super good deal. I'm paying $1650. I got e-pics and the rights, one photographer, the rights to my pics, 3 locations (though we'll probably only use two, which are across the street from each other), the rights to all my pics, an album, and a $100 credit for prints. Most people around here charged $3,000 for that so I was really excited when I found this guy. He is actually a photography professor at a local college, this is his side job. Using a professor or even students is a good way to save some money because this isn't their only job and they want to build their portfolio.

  • My photographer started at $2,500, but we opted to not do engagement pics and only use one photographer and only for ceremeony/reception (6 hours) so ihe reduced the package to $1,750. That includes all pictures taken on a DVD for us to do as we choose.

  • Mine is $2000

    -Engagement session
-7 hours coverage with 2nd shooter
-DVD of all images with rights
  • $4500, 2 photographers, 8 hours, all images and rights on a disc.

Like others have mentioned, it is very regional, and has a huge range even in one city due to quality, experience, etc.

  • Definitely a regional thing - and you pay for what you get.

Around here, all of the photographers that I would consider are upwards of $3000 for their starting packages. Under $1000, and the photographer is probably not very experienced (although I think this is probably not the case in small towns).

Our package is around $4500 but it includes a photo booth and a few extra hours of coverage.

As you look into packages, MAKE SURE you get the "digital rights" to all of your photos. Otherwise, you will only be able to purchase images from your photographer (which is SUPER pricy). You want to be able to own your images and do with them as you wish.

I am a hobby photographer and spent, oh, probably 80 hours researching photographers around my area so if you have any questions I am happy to help :)
  • We're paying $2500 which is $500 off the the usual $3000 because our photographer is also a friend. The price includes:

-E-pic session and rights to those on a disc
-2 photographers and unlimited time for the wedding
-All the rights to the wedding pics on a flashdrive
-We're also getting any professional albums at his cost, so not marked up at all

    This is so true.

We got a "free" engagement session in our package, but if we wanted any of the actual e-photos printed out, we had to pay $8/picture for a 5x7 print. EIGHT DOLLARS FOR ONE PRINT!? The larger sizes went up to $25 for ONE PRINT. We ended up talking her into $250 for all of the pictures on a flash drive and are going to print them ourselves, with her permission.

Needless to say, we have the rights to all of our wedding photos, thankfully. That was not negotiable with the price of $6500.

  • Photography is pretty regional..all depends on where you are sometimes..

    $1650 including:

    1 photog up to 10hrs
2nd photog for up to 5 or 6 hrs
    4 hrs of photobooth
and I forget the size canvas
    free online viewing
  • That's our pain actually..
    I can't get ANYONE who I
have seen from his previous weddings
that he's what we need.I'm looking for
    bright,extra bright,romantic-vintage photos,
like all good American photographers do,
but in Greece,I find all dark,or super expensive..
I just got a price list with 3000-1300 euros..
Months ago I found an American couple from
California with only 1250$ included everything
    we wanted..but + tickets/visas/accom it was 6300$
I think I'll never find what I want with the price we
can give..but it's a great pain to do not have the photos
you wanted for your wedding..I mean those stay forever!

  • My photographer starts $2275, including:
    12 hours coverage
DVD of images, ready to print
    Album
    Online gallery

We went with a different package, but all his packages basically included the same amount of coverage and differ mostly in terms of his albums (which become pricey very fast) and whether or not they include the engagement session. I think we got a pretty good deal for a Toronto wedding photographer. Some of the people here charge an arm and a leg just for the basic 6 hours!
