diaper question

wolverine seems like she has been getting a lot of diaper rashes recently, and had a skin YI in her diaper area. We change her often enough, so not sure if there is something irritating her in the diaper or if they are not holding the moisture well enough or maybe not breathing well enough.

i'm thinking of trying another brand or two when our box is finished (we're almost done)and see if she has better results.

any recommendations? we were using pampers swaddlers though size 2, and have been using pampers baby dry for size 3. we've gone through 3 or so huge boxes, and the rash thing seems like it's only been a problem the last month or so.

we use diaper cream with basically every change (they do at daycare as well) - and that seems to help clear up the rashes, but not prevent.

we were using Huggies when she was in newborn sizes, and got away from them because they seemed to run a bit smaller, and leak more often. i tried them again when she was in 2s (i got some really cheap) - and they seemed ok.

I've heard Luvs are awful.

Re: diaper question

  • Unfortunately, I've got no advice. We use anything from Pampers to Huggies (3s fit her size 2 tushy) to Target brand.

Try smearing her with A&D or Butt Paste to act as a moisture blocker.

  • Have you tried Pampers Cruisers?  We use both Baby Dry and Cruisers.  I think I like Cruisers better.

I've also heard good things about Up&Up brand at Target.

We used Huggies when he was a newborn because I received some as gifts.  I don't really remember if we liked them or not.

Either people love or hate Luv's.  I've never heard an 'in between' opinion on them.
  • Oh and the girls on my local swear by Lotrimin, a butt cream (Desitin or AD&D), and a layer of vaseline to seal it all in to get rid of a stubborn diaper rash.  I've tried it and it does the trick.
  • I liked Huggies.  Is she is the right size?  Maybe graduate up for more space/air down there?

  • I'm indifferent to Luvs, the Mr. says they're 'crunchy"

It *could* be a yeast-infection...they look like a rash but don't go away so easy.  There's a differeence in how they look though..t.rying to remember what the doctor said....
  • I absolutely hate Baby Dry.  Hate, hate, hate.

We mostly only use Huggies Snug & Dry - haven't had any issues with either DD.  They've actually changed a lot since we started buying diapers 2.5 years ago and I really like them.

I do like the Cruisers for DD1, too though, so I'll buy them when I have coupons.
  • Loves are lower-tier than Pampers (this is all I know about diapers).

  • I'm an idiot and scrolled past the first 1/3 of your post when reading.
    ignore me.
  • I've found that the yeast diaper rash is damn persistant.
(and, FWIW, cloth is worse for those--yeast is one of the few things that isn't always killed by washing in hot--in fact, persistint YI = women being told to irion their underware for the same reason).

As much as I hate suggesting it, could you try some 'diaper free' time to air things out? it's supposed to help (and I found it did when Buffy had YI)
  • firends have used a blowdrier on the gentlest heat setting to make sure everything is totally dry before diapering back up.

we have used pampers cruisers exclusively.  the baby dry variety were not as absorbent.

and i know 6 is going to recommend pinxav for the cream.  i DO NOT recommend the burts bees kind -- it just smells nice but is not effective.

  • We've found chlorine-free diapers to be the best for us. The ones we have are called comforts, but it may be the store brand. We used cloth for a year and a half but half of them are tattered and unusable, which sucks because we never had diaper rash problems with them.
  • We used Huggies and Pampers interchangebly and never paid attention to whether they were snugglers or baby-dry etc.  We never used any kind of diaper cream until she was about 2-1/2 and started having bowel issues that irritated her anus.  DH is the king of sensitive skin and I'm the queen, so naturally DD is the princess.   But her diaper area was never really a problem.   Weird.

Are these YI diagnosed or assumed?   Once, I assumed DD had either a UTI or YI because it really hurt when she peed.   The dr did some tests and said it was neither, but that other bacteria can cause irritation in the area (obvs) - - the doctors recommendation was to put about an ounce of regular bleach into her full bath.  I was weirded out by it, but you know what - it works.   I do it once evey few months and she remains fresh as a daisy.

My nephew started to get very bad rashes no matter what brand diaper he wore at around 1 year old.   They eventually had to switch to cloth diapers and that solved the problem.

Sorry, I was interupted about 20 billion times while writing this (these people expect me to work while I'm at work - wtf?) so my line of thinking probably isn't clear.
  • Well, my ghetto-a$$ uses Luvs for LO and I love 'em.  HATED Pampers and Huggies, especially the price.

The only time LO has gotten diaper rash is when she's consumed something really acidic (homemade tomato soup, raw citrus, etc.) and we knew that was coming.  Plenty absorbent too.

Up and Ups were pretty good and completely unscented, and pretty absorbent.

Past that, IDK what else besides going to the doctor for it.

  • we used a monistat cream, and it helped clear up the yeast infection in a few days. we typically use Desitin or the like , and they will help clear up rashes, but not prevent.

I'm going to try the crusiers, since we seem to do well with papmpers, and look at the up&up as a backup.

size-wise, she's at the low end of the range 16-28lbs, she's 20ish, so i'm thinking that's probably not it, but i can always try out some 4s and see if it makes a difference.
  • We use Huggies. The only time we have problems with leaks is in the night, but also because he's pissing in the same diaper for 11 hours and he has always drank a ton. I like that they maybe run small because he's thin and we need something that runs a bit smaller. I can't help on rashes. Our issues with rashes seem to happen if he eats something (although we can't pinpoint what) and the poop bothers his skin.
  • DefConn's not quite in the weight range for size 4 (just over 20lbs), but he was peeing out of 3's and they just looked small on him.  We went up to 4's and haven't had an issue since.

I'm late, as always, but definitely don't use regular cream on a yeast infection. It can prevent them, but it won't treat one.  Sounds like you are good with that.

We ended up with a diaper rash once that required 2 visits to a dermatologist and topical steroids. Ugh.  He told us to just keep using it and that it would clear up when he is potty trained. (!) Seriously? This is what I get at a leading teaching hospital?

I can't add much to what's here. We are all huggies and up&up, unless pampers go on super sale or something. No issues.

We do use the huggies overnight for overnight. They work great 99% of the time, but Des's leaked last night because he drank a TON of water right before bed. I can't imagine what would have happened then with a regular diaper. They are like $.54 each, but worth it, imo.

  • DS gets a rash unless we use Pampers Sensitive or Huggies Pure and Natural.
