Blergh. My cholesterol is high.

It's one part genetics (thanks Dad!) and one part I'm really crappy at exercising regularly. So this is my kick in the pants to remember to do something- run, 30 Day Shred, whatever- every day. And I recheck in 3 months or I'm on statins. I cannot be 30 and on a statin.

Also- any suggestions for favorite healthy recipes? We don't eat much red me, and I really do try to limit items with lots of saturated fat.

  • DH hit the oatmeal and it really has seemed to help.  That's really all I've got.
  • maybe now that you arent traveling so often, it'll come down on its own a little.
  • You can be on them if you need them, I have been since 27 and have 2 kids on them that are only 25 and 26.  If its genetic like ours diet and exercise won't make enough difference to notice.  I had a dietitian at Vanderbilt tell me that us eating 1 french fry was like somebody else's body having 2 super size orders.
  • How high exactly?  And are your good levels high as well?

  • I really enjoy the Clean Eating magazines.  And if you're super lazy, there's a 2 week meal plan in each one of them, including shopping lists.  It's not often we don't like a recipe out of there.  The cookbooks themselves are so-so, honestly.

And now I remember that I owe 6 some recipes.  Sorry, ma'am.  I'm starting to be a complete loss for you and recipes, aren't I.  I'll get on that...um....this weekend. Tonight is AHS and a game and then tomorrow is Friday.

  • Yeah, how is your ratio of good to bad? I've had high cholesterol most of my life - thanks Mom AND Dad - but my doc thinks my ratios are ok and since I exercise regularly and eat a lot of whole grains, he has no intention of putting me on drugs.

  • My triglycerides were 210. I'm not sure what my HDLs were but she said they were lower than she liked. My LDLs and VLDLs weren't bad. I need to work on the exercise. I've been slacking.
  • You're barely high.  This is a wake up call, not a warning call.  Just start watching your fat intake, add a glass of red wine to dinner (just one) and get back to your exercise.  You'll be fine.
