Wedding Woes

I was awakened this morning

By a text from my sister saying:

"[bf] gave me a promise ring last night. Isn't it cute?"

She *just* graduated yesterday. I texted her back asking 1. if my parents knew, and 2. if she realized what a promise ring means.

She said that my mom knew and thought it was cute (oy...) and that she "totally got it."

The only thing I'm worried about is that my brother and his wife are HS swethearts, and I know she's thinking that she & bf will live happily ever after just like them.

Gah. I think I'd feel better about this if she didn't wake me up at 7am to tell me. She's flying in tomorrow, so I'm planning on feeling this out a little more when she gets here.

My brother knows better than to ever do something like that to me. I don't believe in HS relationships (yes, I am a complete cynic and pessimist when it comes to romance) and don't see the point in them. My brother's GF is following him to college when it wasn't even her first choice to begin with. I don't get it.

Hopefully your sis will make smart choices regardless of a promise ring.

I always wondered what the promise was?

I promise to take you to prom.
I promise not to stick Mr. Peter into another girl.
I promise not to break up with you after we take picture together in the mall.

^^^^^^^^ You know this was always the kiss of death.

Cute is not the word I was looking for, but hopefully when you see her next week you'll get a better idea of the "promise" behind the ring.

Here's the thing - he still has a year of HS left. So I'm wondering if the promise is, "I promise to still love/like you a lot for another year, but once I'm off to college, all bets are off."

No. She's going to a college about half an hour away, and she's going to live at home. I think he was a big part of her decision.

I'm jealous of how mature Wondersis appears to be, Ww. I've always said mine is 18 going on 7.

Eh, perhaps he thinks she could find someone new and wants to keep her true to him. Hopefully the trip out of state will be her some good.
