Hmm, I was wondering why I might need two.  Then again 2 for the price of 1 means you can sell the other right?
  • The FB post said something like "control odor from the nursery AND the playroom!"

Maybe parents can give one to a set of grandparents or someone who will watch the child regularly?

  • I'd actually like a second for downstairs. It's a pain to trot up and down the stairs with a dirty diaper, but then I would have 3.

But maybe on for the grandparents.

  • we have 2 (Diaper Champs, i think, you don't need the special bags for them) - one is upstairs in her bedroom, one is downstairs.

If they're packed right, I suppose I could get 2 shower gifts out of this...
(Yes, this is my go to shower gift, even though I don't use one--we do cloth and just a trash can for the disposables)

I'm kind of wondering if our diaper habits might change since we're in a 2 story now.  It was no biggie to change them in their rooms with a ranch, but those steps could get old fast with a little one.
  • I never used one of these, so I have a question.

It says it holds 270 newborn diapers, 233 #1s, etc.  Do you really leave 200 diapers in it?  You don't empty it after a day or so?  I can't imagine what that 1st diaper under the other 199 is like or how old it would be.

One sleeve of bags hold that many diapers, but the genie itself does not.  When the pail part gets full there is a little cutter and you cut the bag off, tie a new knot in the end and start another poop sausage.  We usually empty it every 3 or so days.  I will say it does an excellent job of keeping the odor in.  I've never had to empty it because it smelled bad.

    Ah, ok then.

Also, a confession:  We're not trying or even sure if we're having another child, but when I see deals like this I JUST WANT TO BUY IT BECAUSE OMG IT'S A GREAT DEAL.

    I have hoarder tendencies.

    taw, don't do it.
There's nothing more depressing than a pile of baby stuff in the corner of the hoarding pile :)
    (but you know that)

Or do it and assume that you'll give it as a shower gift.
  • smell is less of a problem if you flush the poo like you are legally supposed to instead of throwing it in the trash like the criminal you are!

I'm willing to go to jail for failure to flush the poo.  If I wanted to flush it I'd be cloth diapering.
  • we flush and we do not cloth diaper.  it's not that difficult -- it pretty much peels right off the diaper by itself like a disgusting pancake.

    enjoy your lunches, ladies.

isn't that why the CDer folks who are lazy buy flushable liners?

'peel, flush, toss cloth into cloth pail'
  • Seriously, grossest thing ever.

The poo diapers get folded up into a neat little package and thrown into the genie. There is no peeling of poo, EVER.

  • the poo peels off by itself.  hold it over the toilet, and it just flops off, taking a little suicide leap into the toilet.
    image
  • if you want a specially boxed container of poo in your house, get a cat.  otherwise, flush.
    image
  • What about the splashes?  Do you have to clean the floor and the toilet seat after every poo pancake?  Or does Baby Mo have Olympic skills to form poos with minimal splash on entry?

I just a friendly gal looking for options.

  • we fold up the diapers (no matter the contents) and  put them in the pail. we've never had an issue with smell. we just empty as needed.
  • there is minimal splash. the poops are not that big and they are not dropped in from a significant height.

if you would like me to take some pictures for your own judging purposes, i will but first i will need you to register as a trial judge.  usa diving might be able to help you with a listing of criteria.

  • Kids are f'in gross.
  • kids are gross.  i also think it's super gross to keep poop in a pail like it's a keepsake instead of flushing waste into a septic system that is designed to handle poop, but i guess san diego, san deeyahgo.

  • Wait. Wait, wait, wait.

What is this flushing poop nonsense? I've never heard of nor seen anyone flush poop. Not my mom, not any of her friends, not any of my friends, certainly not me. You just wrap that sucker up and throw it out. The daycare did the same, so this "legally required" business is either extremely local to you or total bunk.

<div>Actually, I do believe real, it's just that most everyone ignores it and, barring going through poopy diapers, there's no way to prove it, so it's ignored.  (the biggest issues being that solid waste, not properly treated, sitting in plastic wrappers are slow-release pollutant/ecoli bombs seeping waste into the water supply)</div><div>
</div><div>I'm fairly sure my box o' huggies has small print saying to do this.  really.</div>
