s/o rules for kids

I agree that no matter how kids are schooled, they need to be taught basic rules/behaviors so they can function in normal society.

DH and I took my parents to the Baltimore aquarium when they were visiting last weekend. The place was packed - lots of small, screaming children = longer wait times to see the exhibits, and a huge annoyance factor.

At one point, my dad and I were standing up next to the glass looking at the fish  and several little kids (i'm talking 7yo or so, old enough to know better) started trying to push through. This was not the fist time these kids started pushing me around. As the parents (wherever they were) didn't seem to give a damn what their kids were doing, I turned around and told the kids to back up, stop shoving people, behave themselves and wait their turn, just like everyone else had to do. These kids seems shocked that someone actually told them to behave themselves, and surprisingly, they actually did - I didn't see them shoving anyone else after that point.

Re: s/o rules for kids

  • Excellent.

I am always tempted to yell at misbehaving children that seem to be lacking parents. Perhaps, I should succumb more often.
  • i am so glad they didn't try to pull the "but i'm a kid!"

who yells at kids?  where i'm from, everyone yells at kids.

  • A little shame goes a looooooong way.

  • Kids sometimes listen to strangers because they know strangers might actually be serious. They ignore mom and dad because they know they can get away with their hellraising.
