Hollywood Glam Theme

Ok I'm new to this whole wedding board thing but I figured it would be a great way to get some fab ideas from the really creative brides-to-be out there... Alright well I'm getting married next summer, July 9, 2011, and I just got started on the planning recently (even though I have been engaged for over 6 months!) We just chose our venue and I bought a dress but everything else still needs to be done! So I have started thinking about details lately and possible themes. We live in Hollywood but our wedding will be in Michigan (where we are both from and where most of the family is). I was thinking of having a Hollywood Glam style or theme for the reception without going overboard on the cheese factor. I came up with a list of landmarks and streets that could become table names (maybe use vintage postcards at each table?) but other than that I would love suggestions and ideas! The venue is a carriage house on a hilly golf course that was built in the late 1920's. It has been renovated and updated but could easily work for a retro Hollywood-style event. My dress is -1&src=res&keep=-1">Tierney by Sottero & Midgely and I think it too would work for this theme. Thanks for your suggestions and ideas ;-)

  • Welcome to the boards!  You'll find lots of great info on them all.  Be sure to lurk (meaning read posts to get a feel for the boards) because each board has a different vibe to it.

Your local board and wedding month board will be really helpful too!  Every board except your local board is international, so keep that in mind if you're looking for vendors in your city.  You can find links to all the boards right here on the left hand side.

  • find slightly period attire for fi and BM's
Do a signature Martini for the cocktail hour, or two- one you love one fi loves
wear a fascinator or birdcage veil
Use crystal candelabras if you can, set on a mirror, with plenty of roses and tea lights
Maybe get some *nice* feather boas for the bridesmaids and yourself for reception
Spread the word to guests they should dress the part if they're into that sort of thing (I am!)

    Sounds great! Love your dress!

  • Have a redcarpet entrance with the red velvet ropes to line the entrance.  It would make all the guests feel like they are walking the red carpet before going into the reception.
  • I love your idea and it should be a lot of fun.

I recently came back from a hotspot in Barbados called Mojo's and it was this quaint bar with a really fab Hollywood vintage meets mondern style. It was perfect. They had pictures of Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russel, Mick Jagger and Jean Claude Baker.  Posters stuck up every wear, old newspaper clippings... It had such a chic feeling and it wasn't tacky which I loved. The motify was a red and black.

Black tie affair... with lounge matchbooks and classic hats. You could even buy those really cheap cigars and a desinated brandy area for the men.
Having a classic martini but this is a list of 60's drinks

    Hope that helps

  • Thanks for the amazing ideas!! I love the madmen idea... my photographer is obsessed with anything midcentury modern (which is part of why we hired her!) http://www.heathersaundersphotography.com
Now that I have that part done I'm still really struggling with colors. I was pretty sure I wanted bold colors like tealy-blue and fuschia, but I'm having the hardest time finding the right bridesmaid dresses. Also the vibrant colors don't go with the vintage theme that I am considering. I put together 3 different color "inspiration" groupings. Which of these three do you like best?
