Cameras for Reception

Hi everyone!
This is my first official posting, so hello :o)
So, I came across the phone apps Wedding Snap and PhotoOpp-Bride Edition. Has anybody used these?
The price for the to-be-married-couple is at least $100!! That is just not something we can drop that kind of money on... but I really liked the idea of everyone's photos being uploaded to the site in real time, so everyone can see all of the pictures being taken by other guests.

Does anyone have any suggestions for alternative apps that can acheive the same thing? I looked into flickr and Shutterfly, but both require your guests to make an account and can only be invited to your "group" via email invitation. Thanks in advance :o)

Hmmm, it looks very interesting. Depending on how many camera you intended to purchase for the tables, it could be very cost effective.

Anxious to hear what people have to say too!

  • Almost everyone has a smart phone or digital camera these days.  the disposable cameras are outdated.    I prepared free business cards on vistaprint for less than $5.00 and created a new Gmail email account.   the business cards had a cute design on them and said "Did you take pictures today!?  If so, please share them with us by sending them to newemailaccount@gmail.com !

I am putting those cards in the programs and also just leaving them on the tables at the reception.  the whole thing cost less than 5 bucks and I'll create an online album with everything that people send to me .  :)
  • I don't think she's talking about puting cameras on the tables -- she's talking about a service that guests can use with their smart-phones that automatically uploads their photos onto a sharing website, but is worried about how expensive the service is.

OP -- I think the photo-sharing sites might be the way to go.  Yes, your guests will need to sign up, but it's not a huge hassle, and those who don't want to sign up just won't share photos.    If you want real-time sharing, then you might just be able to use Facebook -- most people who use facebook already have the app on their smart-phone, and it's easy to upload photos, tag people, and see what photos your friends have taken or are tagged in.  The only snag is that people who aren't on Facebook or aren't facebook friends with you won't be able to participate, and people who ARE faecbook friends and not invited to the wedding will be seeing all of your photos (maybe you care, maybe you don't).

  • First I have heard of it super super cute I will have to look into it!
  • The g-mail account that Cmgilpin mentioned sounds like a happy medium. You have digital copies of all the pics, plus it's inexpensive. You won't have to use disposable cameras (which are about $10 for 2 cameras that have horrible exposure rates) and you won't have to pay to view pics afterwards.
  • We used Wedding Turtle which lets you do a password or not. We made up free business cards on VP with the URL and password and guests could upload their pics to albums on our own page on Wedding Turtle. It was free and the guests didn't need to make an account. With smart phones, they could do it right there at the reception if they wished. We just put the business cards at each place setting.

  • We ended up buying one of these apps through a deal on weddingchannel.com. I think it was 40 or 45 dollars. They're becoming more popular so sign up for their deals and they might run another special!!! I can't wait to see what people send in!!
  • Thank you everyone!! I will look into the Wedding Turtle thing, and also keep an eye out for special deals (I didn't even think of that!)
I want the guests to be able to see the pics as the night progresses, so idk about making an email for them to send to me. I also don't really care to have the pictures floating around facebook, I won't be able to filter through the bad ones people have posted until a week later! lol.
I guess I could always make a flickr account with a new email and just have everyone sign on with that, and make some cards up to set at each place setting with the info. Maybe even have them take that card home & upload any pictures at home they may have taken with a digital camera.

Thank you again ladies! I love the input :o)
