Need Wedding Reception Ideas

The theme of my reception is Picnic in the Gardens.  The wedding will be outside and plan B is in a tent.  The wedding is in the backyard of a B&B and the yard has its own decorations.  The only thing I can think of is getting those table clothes in the pincic print in my wedding colors.  The food being served is like what you would find at an picnic.  I was also thinking of getting small picnic baskets as favors and fill them with personalized M&Ms.  I haven't come across and baskets yet but still looking.  Any other ideas?

  • That is going to be so much fun.  I would love to attend a wedding like that.  Good luck.
  • For centerpieces, you could do those little galvanized buckets with colorful daises in them. Check out www.younghouselove.com blog and click "Our wedding". They did an incredible backyard wedding that was so casual and elegant. I love it!
  • Flowerpot centerpeices? I think you should follow Milkdud's advice and go look through the inspiration boards. Or, get some bridal magazines and cut out pictures. That is a really unique them (I think) and it sounds like it will be really cool!
Or, another idea: little picnic baskets to hold the programs and menus. Flowers on all the stationary.

  • Or, I have been to a wedding where the favor was a little packet of seeds that we could plant. They printed out a cute label with their names and wedding date. That might be cute and go along with setting being a backyard 'garden.'
In a recent issue of Martha Stuart weddings, (February or March) Martha's nephew got married. They had the appetizers set up like a farmer's market, in square baskets on carts with an umbrella thing over the cart and little rustic signs labelling the food. Then people literally could sit on areas of the backyard on nice picnic blankets to socialize...and there were areas of the garden with seating; like old rocking chairs and cool pillows. It was very inviting. But, not sure if I'd want my guests sitting on the ground to have their appetizers! Can you hang strings of lightbulbs in the backyard from tree to tree?
