First Dance song?!?!?!

I haven't put much thought into our first dance song but now I am starting to worry.. We both like alternative music and don't want a traditional song. I have thought of only these two..
"Till Kingdom Come" - Coldplay
"Follow You Into The Dark"-Death Cab for Cutie

Give me some other ideas or your thoughts on these songs!

Thanks!!! :)

Re: First Dance song?!?!?!

• I haven't heard either but I would go with something that you both like. That way it will be personalized. My FI got to pick the song and he chose Alison Krauss "When you say nothing at all". It was such a cute choice that it's what we are going to use. I honeslty didnt think he would be helping me with the wedding details but he's exceeded my expectations!

Good luck!

• Both songs are nice choices, but it should be a song that means something to you and your FI. You could both sit down one night and (separately) write out a list of 5-10 songs that mean something to you and that you think would work for your first dance. After you each have made your list, you could pick from there.

FWIW, our first dance song is "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds.

• I love both, but "Follow you into the dark" is a little more grim to me. It's a beautiful song and I love it, but it's totally up to you. The whole song is about love, but it has a ton of talk about dying basically, which doesn't make me happy to start the rest of my life with my new husband!

I have to ditto this. I think the MOST IMPORTANT thing in choosing a song is of course for you and your fiance to agree on it but secondly google the lyrics!!!!! A song may sound really pretty when you're listening to it in your car on your way to work, but remember this song is a statement to your guests of what yalls relationship is! And I personally just don't know if this is the impression you want....

In Catholic school as vicious as Roman rule
I got my knuckles bruised by a lady in black
And I held my tongue as she told me
"Son fear is the heart of love"
So I never went back

If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the NOs on their vacancy signs

If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
• Nola, that's the exact part I was thinking of..

• We're going with "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol, the Live at Union Chapel version... I agree with googling the lyrics, the words are beautiful.
8/6/11 ~ Happily Ever After!
• My FI loves "I Will Follow You Into the Dark." I like it too, but the lyrics don't work for me for the wedding. So we're compromising by using an acoustic version for the recessional. No new ideas on the first dance - we're in the same boat.

Follow You Into The Dark is a great song- I was actually considering it for our first dance, but I decided I don't want something that's vaguely death-focused (although I love the idea someone else posted of using an acoustic version in the ceremony! The music itself for that song is so gorgeous).

Try looking at bands that do acoustic stuff fairly often- Incubus comes to mind, as do Foo Fighters. They both write solid lyrics, too, so maybe something would pop up.

• I'm thinking of going with "I'll Be" by Edwin McCain? Thoughts? I like the Death Cab idea, that's his favorite band and I bet he would love to include them in that way!
• I think the reason people choose "over the rainbow" is they are implying that they are leaving the dull life by getting married...the married life is as the song says the wonderful world where drams come true...at least I always assumed this :)

• We are going old school with "Tender Love" by the Force MDs. It came up on the iPod during the first time we, well, you know. ;) That won't be the story we'll be sharing if anyone asks why we chose that song. :)

they have a great selection for every part of the wedding

• Thanks everyone! I never looked at the lryics and I am glad you guys mentioned it. That is not something I want my first dance to be to. I will now be looking at lyrics and listening to music at the same time ;)

Thanks again! You guys are great!
