Serving Sodas at Reception

Does anyone have any good ideas for serving Soda at the reception.  We are having our wedding at a venue that does not provide the catering and our caterer is only willing to serve tea and water.  We want to have sodas available as well but are unsure how to do that in a way that is still classy.  Should I hire someone to set up a table and pour the drinks or should I have iced down canned sodas in tubs?  If so any suggestions on what kind of containers to put the canned drinks in.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

  • You can get some nice galvanized buckets/troughs.  When I think "formal", I don't think soda at all, but a new galvanized bucket is much better than a plastic tub or a giant igloo cooler.

  • I would do a big tin galvanized tub. I would also get glass bottles of soda instead of cans, if at all possible. I think that'll help make it look nicer.

Or, can you have the sodas in a cooler behind the bar, and the bartender can pour them as people order them? Either from the can into a cup full of ice, or just pop the top off the bottle and give it to them, or pour it behind the bar from a 2 or 3 liter bottle?

  • Are you able to ask the reception site what people usually do?
  • Target has powder-coat steel tubs in 4 or 5 colors right now, you might be able to find one fitting with your color scheme.
