Color Help! Should I make the red work? (photos)

Reception site booked! I love the fact that it's basically a blank canvas, except for the red booths/couches in the bar area (second photo below). Am I stuck with making a red a main color (like the red/aqua/black/white combo)? I wasn't really planning on incorporating it in the palette, but now it feels like every color combo clashes.

It's a June wedding, so I'm concerned that red may be a little to wintry. Any suggestions?

  • Yellow and orange flowers would go with the red- see the lights above the couches, which are also summer colors. White and green might also look nice. I don't think you really need to "match" the couches though. Just depends on your preference- I actually am attempting to compromise my wedding colors and my venue decor also, so I understand.

  • You could do a red and turquoise color scheme and even add in accents of orange and golden yellows. Red can be a summer color. Or you can do a orange and turquoise wedding and the red couches will blend in just fine, especially if you have some darker orange shades.

  • Your venue is stunning! Great choice! I agree with PP about using turquoise and red - very summery and it looks beautiful together. What other colors did you want to use for the wedding? I'm sure if you found the right shades, they would go with the red couches - OR you could always get a couch cover and make it whatever color you want!

  • I like aqua and red -- it's the color scheme of my kitchen.  ;)

    What about lavender and red?

  • Thanks all! I think I was hung up on finding two colors, but I'm realizing having a few more doesn't neccessarily mean it'll end up looking cluttered.

ajroark - Green is my favorite color and before we found this place, I thought I'd be doing a rustic decor based around a muted green. After picking this venue, "rustic" went out the window I was worried that doing green in any form would look too much like Christmas. (I was liking a black/white/chartreuse damask decor for a while but I was still getting a Christmas feeling even after adding a blue/turquoise to it.)

I'm loving the idea of adding in orange and yellow to the red and turquoise. That'll definitely help with the bridesmaids dress choices.

Maybe I can even use muted versions of those colors too. These still look like summer to me!

    Thanks again!
  • I think red and green could be a gorgeous summer colour combo - think strawberries, red and green apples, mint (strawberry mojitos?!), palm or banana leaves, red gerberas etc rather than Christmassy flowers or decor.  I suppose it depends on the type of green you go with...your venue is lovely and I'm sure it will look fab no matter which colours you choose!

I would definately try and incorporate red in there somewhere though Wink
