Re: grooms cake

  • I'm surprising my FI with one. Our baker is making me a custom one for $75... I'm soooo excited!!

  • We didn't have one.  It's not really common in my area, it's more of a southern thing.  So I told my H (then FI) about it and he didn't seem too interested or didn't really care about it, so I skipped it.

  • I'm having one.  My FI is a big outdoorsy guy (hunting and fishing) and if I let him, he would be wearing a camoflauge tux.  But I'm not letting him so instead I'm getting him a camo cake with the saying "The hunt is over" on it. My way of letting him have a little camo at the wedding. Laughing

We're skipping it as well.  I don't think FI even knows what a groom's cake is.
  • We are not going to have a groom's cake....I think the price of an additional cake, the fear of being left with tons left over and my FI just not interested made our decision

  • We're not having one either.. I didn't even know what they were until I was on TK. I asked FI if he'd want one and he said no. Then I thought about doing one as a surprise for him at the rehearsal dinner, and decided against when the subject of grooms cakes came up again in conversation and he said he thought they were stupid, so I scrapped that idea. As pp mentioned they're not usually done in my area.
  • I live in the South, and I had never heard of a groom's cake until one of my friends got married.  Everyone keeps telling me that they are really common down here, but I say to each his/her own.

I personally like the idea because even though the day is about the couple, many people tend to focus on the bride.  Having a groom's cake is a nice way to honor his interests, too, if not both of you!

My FI and I want a birchbark bridal cake to go with our fall theme.  It's still white but represents both of our interests.  We are both Ole Miss fans, so we are thinking about having a Vaught-Hemingway Stadium groom's cake made.  (He's a cop on campus, so a funny cop cake-topper would be hilarious on this...)

Also, if you have a large family like I do, they will not hesitate at the idea of taking home a little extra cake, especially if it's to die for!

  • I am from Alabama so they are very common in my area.  In fact, I have never been to a wedding without a groom's cake or some kind of groom's table with a dessert that is different from the Bride's cake.  We are doing a banana pudding display because that is my fiance's favorite dessert.

  • I wasn't going to do one but the lady making my cake talked me into it. My FI is in construction and loves tools and whatnot so I am having a toolbox cake made. It's gunna be awesoem and a great surprise! its just up to you.
  • None for us.  I think groom's cakes tend to used more in weddings where the bride makes every little decision, and so the groom gets this one place where his personality and interests can show.  Our entire wedding reflected both of us equally, so there was no need for one thing that could be just his.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • We're having one. I asked my fiance and he said he wanted one. Luckily his grandma makes great cakes so she is going to make it for us.
