Alternatives to bird seed and bubbles

When the groom and I leave we would like something a little less traditional than having bird see thrown at us or having bubbles blew.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  The reception is outside in a state park and we are trying to go along with a picnic theme if that helps at all.  I just feel as if bubbles are over done and I am not looking forward to having birdseed down my dress.  TIA

  • Flower petals? Leaves? Lavender?  Something like that might be better than confetti or whatever because it won't turn into litter. What about instead of throwing something, you create a path, like with those twirly ribbon things (like the ones attached to a stick, omg I swear I used to know what they were called). I've seen people light the path with sparklers too, that's kinda fun. Since it's a state park, I'd make sure whatever you bring in, you can take out easily, so it might be best to get something that people don't throw so you don't have to pick it up.

  • I ike the ribbon idea.  If it'll be a late ceremony you could also do sparklers or poppers.
  • The lavender idea sounds amazing...so do the sparklers!

I saw confetti once but that stuff ended up everywhere; it was that type of glittery confetti. After the wind was done blowing we all looked like we got attacked by a riot of strippers. I would stay away from that....

  • Ribbon wands can make for some really cute photos. You could also have your guests ring bells.

  • You can do sparklers. They have heart shaped sparklers for cheap online. I think they are like 1.00 for 12. I was thinking about doing this.

  • i would vote for the ideas that dont leave litter! especially at a park they wont want you leaving trash behind and the last thing youll wanna do is worry about cleaning up or getting billed for extra clean up fees :( go with streamers for the daytime or sparklers if its evening!

  • I vote for dried flowers!

  • Will the state park allow you to throw anything?

  • What about paper mache seeds? look at lepaper.com they are inexpensive and will turn into flowers, but have a similar effect to confetti with out the mess or littering
  • I love the ribbon wand idea!  Originally when it was going to be a later wedding we had planned to do the sparklers, but I think the ribbon wand will work better since it will be more light.  Thank you all for your suggestions!!
  • My friend used eco confetti at her wedding.. It was neat and biodegradable! http://www.save-on-crafts.com/confetti.html
